Anyone know about that odds are typically associated with being a "longshot" for a position? Is it say, 1 in 20 or 1 in 50...?

It is probably closer to 1 in 50,000. It is extremely rare that anyone ever gets a "longshot" job.

Ive never gotten one I have applied close to 20 times

I'm also around 0-for-20 on longshot jobs. But I believe doomey said he got the Fresno State job in Phelan as a longshot this past season, so it has apparently happened at least once in WIS history!

What about "keep looking"?
12/11/2009 4:32 PM
Don't you think it also depends on if someone else is going for the same job?

If you get declined for a job, is there a chance you could be accepted if you re-submit your application?
12/11/2009 7:56 PM
No.

Also, I wasn't aware that you COULD resubmit.

If I submit an application for a job before the 11am cycle and haven't heard anything by the 8pm cycle, is that unusual?

I submitted 2 apps at the same time, got rejected for the longshot D1 job and haven't heard anything about the D2 job. I tried applying again, thinking maybe I just forgot to apply but it tells me I already have.

I got a longshot job a few seasons back, but it was coming off a few weak PAC10 seasons, and heading to a D- Horizon team.

Has anybody been hired as a longshot or keep looking candidate? I know the odds are small but I am curious if they are anything but zero amongst the forum users.

It usually takes about 20-28 hours to hear back on a job if you are going to get it.

I know at least two people who got longshot or keep looking jobs, and a couple of people in this thread say they got them too.
The odds are low, but nowhere near the 1 in 50,000 mentioned above.

My guess is that the odds are in the range of 2-5%, which is exactly what you said above (1-20 to 1-50).
