He's a senior SG, there's your explanation.

Could it have something to do with other teams factor him into their game plans more? Double teams or going for matching him up with a lock down defender?

That would certainly lower his stats, but to what point? Would teams really continue to double team him even when they saw his below-average stats?

You know how many BCS players look like him? They all can't put up great numbers.

In RL, a all-rating 99 senior would not shoot 39%, no matter what defense was thrown at him. He'd take good shots and pass out of double teams for frequent assists. Until HD makes such players much more rare (they simply don't exist, not even close, in RL, even a pro-prime-of-career Michael Jordan or any other player you care to name, is not 99 in all categories, not even close) and much more consistently effective, player generation will continue to be less than optimal.

Frank Thomas stopped taking later in his career, his stats fell off.

No, there are not a lot of guys like this in each DI world. Just a handful. We're talking 99-100 in every meaningful category and A+ iq. I doubt you could fill up all of the fingers on your hand counting a guy like that.

And I think everything anecdotal points to an engine problem, not a ratings problem. We've been seeing plenty of situations like this since well before potential, not to mention plenty of situations like this at DII/DIII, where ratings don't stop at a certain point for everyone (99/100).
