Coach Hiring Warning Topic

Make sure that you participate in your final round of coach bidding. I had to be away on big family business in Dirt and found out that WIS purposely punishes those who miss that round, by bypassing decent options and giving them bad, rookie coaches.

Next time, if that happens, I will have to give my log-in to someone else friendly enough to put in reasonable, simulation bids -- something that WIS has specifically decided not to do in their... simulation.

thanks for the warning!

i am very relieved that i am aware of this...i shudder thinking of the disasters that could have been!

Yeah, it's means franchise-wide, lasting damage, to get a fielding instructor with a 50 in fielding IQ.

So it punishes coaches that miss not only the last cycle, but those that miss the several before it when they could have had offers out to prospective coaches better than the dregs still sticking around? Shocking!

The last cycle of coach hiring occurs around 76 hours after coach hiring begins. You have 18 previous cycles in which to make offers and react to coach's responses to your offers.

So your problem really isn't limited to round 19 of coach hiring. It has more to do with what you did (or didn't do) in the first 18 rounds.

Just so we're clear.

And oh, by the way, having simmy fill unfilled coaching jobs with crappy coaches at the end of coach hiring has pretty much been a part of the game for the past 3 1/2 years. They alleviated it somewhat for a while, but from what I understand it's now back to something close to it's original behavior.

That's quite a feat of eisegesis, carping taz and tech. No, I had been making good bids up until that point. I trust you don't serve on juries.

(For another issue, there is a lack of good fielding instructors in numerous worlds and while I bid very high, others outbid me on the best ones . There were other, more reasonable options , though.)

I'd make a great juror. I can spot a guilty person just by looking at them.

tec- in GAP i played coach lotto this season...i don't remember exactly what the situation was, but i believe i had 5 openings between high A, low A, and rookie and all of them were filled with 70+ guys.

then, the next day in MG i did the same thing and got all guys rated in the 40's.

I just don't understand why WifS won't award the best coaches to those who don't, willfully or by necessity, participate in the coach hiring process. If you can't be around to hire coaches, you should get the best available, right? No one would take advantage of this by just not hiring coaches and getting the 22 best available coaches for the minimum, right?

Hmmm, Arlen... did you pick up on that ironic tone?

The issue actually is the abandoned team problem where a franchise that is abaondoned and gets bottom of barrel coaches assigned gets hurt even more. And the solution is simple: allow coaches to be fired and replaced with any other available unsigned (or fired) coach mid-season using any remaining or transfered in coach payroll. This way if I take over an abandoned team I can fire the 50 hitting IQ big league hitting coach and hire the unsigned 70 IQ guy to at least try to stop the damage.

Why wouldn't everyone do that then, and effectively make the coach hiring process year-round?

I assume you're aware that you know if you're in the lead or behind on a coach, and if you follow for more than 1 cycle, you know if you're going back and forth and could offer another coach just to ensure that you had quality coaches in rookie ball. This isn't a "I couldn't make the final cycle" problem, its an "I failed to properly prepare" issue. Aside from WIS telling us they were going to do this to us a month or so ago.

This is a good idea.

For many months now I've been babysitting the teams of Allsox whilst he serves a tour in Afghanistan and I also ran into a coach hiring problem similar to AW's. The last cycle of coach hiring fell during my sleep time down here so I planned to cover that by offering a currently non-offered Hia and a LowA coach 100k+ to coach in RL. They both refused the offer, remained unemployed for the season and I was allocated the bottom two scrubs remaining in RL. Being somewhat confused I asked Admin why and they replied .....

"No coach in the game is going to ever take a two level demotion. In order for a coach to accept a job at a lower level he had to have coached at that level the previous season and you must offer him 1.5x's the amount he is demanding in order for him to consider signing."

Now I have to admit that although I've been involved with HBD since day1 I had no idea those rules existed. I put it to Admin that both computer logically and in real life no one would place pride ahead of a job offer worth more than they originally asked for. I enquired if one of their programmers was made redundant would he turn down a job in the mail-room on his original salary just because he thought sorting mail was beneath the dignity of a programmer?

Admin has now advised me that they have added my suggestion to their list of things to do in coach hiring but I'm not holding my breath that anything will change.
