anybody use this a lot? I have not used Future State Recruiting Svc the last few cycles. I did not find it all that useful.

Has it improved?

Did I under utilize it?

It's all about the money.

You have to be looking at who has the green high increases in the core categories you care about. If you have someone who is a 60 in LP that is red and someone who is 54 in LP but is green than you know the 54 will pass the other guy in a year or two most likely.

Its about saving yourself from battles over guys that are not any better. Thats how I use it personally. Also, I like to know certain stats can be increased a lot in certain players.

I can't fathom signing a player w. out using it. Why would you want to sign a player without knowing how good he is/going to be ... especially when there may be another kid down the block from him who'll end up as 2x the player?
12/27/2009 10:45 AM
No way I sign a player without using it. The ONLY players I'd ever sign without it would be top-notch DI stars who are already close to maxed in pretty much everything, and even then, I'd want to know what I was getting. As an example, whould you rather have a PF recruit with 50 REB and high potential or 50 REB and low (no) potential? Without knowing the potential, it's completely hit/miss, and FSS is the least expensive and most efficient (allowing scouting of ALL players in a state, not just 1 with a personal eval) way to discover potential. FSS: don't even leave home without it.

I love FSS you can find some real gems.

For example (just because I was looking at my old team) :

Fitzgibbons was not a highly ranked player when I recruited him, so he was flying under the radar. If it was nto for FSS I would not have even considered him. But using FSS I saw he had highs in ATH, SPD, BH, P, PER and STM.

He turned out pretty damn good I would say.

FSS is SOOOOO worth it.

He will probably pass him in 10 games, not a whole season or 2

i use it most years. i need players with high growth at 3 areas and it is the only way to find out. if you wait on drop downs you can save some cash also.

agree 100%. i would take a walkon in d2/d3 over a player i didn't scout 10 times out of 10.

If you are not using it, you are at a serious disadvantage. This is crucial information at ANY level.

SHoot yeah. ABout the only time I won't FSS is if I am in a really big expensive state and I only need to recruit one. And in that case I am most definitely using the scouting function.

Or taking a walkon.

I use it religiously. I have 2 DII teams and quite often have carryover money to pay for the scouting. I have discovered one thing. The location of your school plays a big role in how much you will have to spend. I might scout 3 states for my California school. My W. Virginia school requires many more states be scouted. I guess this is supposed to mirror RL. If I was advising someone about a job I would suggest a school in a large state.
12/29/2009 8:23 AM
Keep in mind, Johnh, that wth that small state school(Brandeis, Dartmouth, for example)) When you scout multiple states you are also getting a multi-state discount, so the cost difference is really not that much.
12/29/2009 8:29 AM
I have just found that I have to spend more to find a similar number of quality players in a small state. It does fluctuate from season to season, which makes sense.
12/29/2009 8:38 AM
AH. Well, at least my experience with several teams in teh Northeast is that I actually am ot spending that much more - as long as I carefully select which suite of small states I target year to year. You want ones that cost MORE than 200, as 200 is the floor for FSS costs, so if you get a state that costs 200, you are probably paying more per recruit than you woudl in a larger state. If it costs MORE than 200, you are paying the normal amount per rec
