I don't get this game sometimes. I know we shouldn't have beaten the #2 ranked team in the country, probobly shouldn't have been close, but we only scored 28 points and had just 12 TOs. The thing is that CSU, LA has bad defensive ratings, team average of 44. The DE of their starting 5 is:
C - 15
PF - 36
SF - 57
SG - 16
PG - 34
They have great shot blocking numbers and they did block 11 shots but how can we only make 11 shots the whole game against a team with such bad DE numbers? On top of that they played a -1 defense which you would assume would mean that we had some open shots.
I just don't get it.

DE numbers is not the end all be all in this game. Thats something you need to realize, it took me a while to understand as well. He was a lot faster than you and more athletic as well.

Starters: He also had a slight IQ edge and only gets bigger with backups in, also he has a STAMINA edge as well

PG- 75/82 A-
SG- 67/52 A-
SF- 54/66 A-
PF- 40/38 B+

His ATH/SPD/DEF IQ

SF- 85/70 B+
PF- 67/57 A
C- 81/39 A

Oh, I totally agree that he is better then me and should have beaten me pretty easily I'm just shocked that we only hit 11 FGs the whole game.

Defense is still one of the last numbers I look at, both in recruiting and game-planning. Like schroedess said, athleticism, speed, and IQ's are the keys in my humble opinion.

I agree. Defense means far too little. It's 4th on my list of important things to look at for gameplanning against a defense as well.

I hate to sound rude, but you should have gotten blown out. His DE ratings are low, but your ratings in important OFF categories are worse. Many of his backups are better than your starters.

The fact that he blew you out is not surprising at all. Also, consider the fact that your starters basically sat most of the game since both teams played their backups most of the game since it was a blowout. So your best players were barely in at all. For example, your backup guards have speeds in the 30s and 40s, his backups are in the high 80s-90s.

You have 1 player above 70 ath and 2 above 70 spd (none above 85 spd). He has 3 above 70 ath and 5 above 70 spd (4 above 85). You have noone above 60 Reb, he has 5 (no easy second chance shots for you).

Not rude at all. I don't consider myself to be very good at this game and I know there is a lot I don't get so I actually appriciate what you're telling, it can only help me down the road.

I guess I haven't figured out the most important categories yet. When I recruit I've been placing a high importance on DE, WE, and then PE for a guard and LP, REB for a post.

Would you say that SP and ATH are more important?

I guess I'm asking what are the top 4 categories you look for in a recruit?

Post - ATH/LP/REB/DEF/SB
G - SPD/BH/P/PER

These can change depending on what type of offense you run, how much depth you have, and the overall dynamics of your team.

For instance in a motion/man, if I'm starting posts with higher ATH/BH/P/DEF/SB and a little lighter in REB. I'll start and recruit for G and SF that are a little higher in REB and I might be able to sacrifice a little somewhere else
