Capital - Preseason Red Player Rankings Topic

Gentlemen -

Thought I would spice up the offseason with the innagural Red preaseason player rankings. Should be interesting to analyze the conference at each position prior to the start of the season. As usual, please feel free to express your disagreements with my evaluation formula. Take my rankings with a grain of salt - I have precisely 0 national championships to show for my long tenure at SMCM. But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

So without further ado...

Once again, I'm sure everyone will be shocked that my ranking formula seems to favor my own players...ugh. At least I can point to Zierenberg's being voted National Freshman of the Year and 3rd team all conference as lending some credibility to my rankings. Beyond that, both him and Vanhoose seem to be the only two with an exceedingly high combination of SPD+BH+P. Forunately for me, the apparent narcassism suffers a blow with the SG rankings...

Goucher's Bradley Barlow looks scary good, and he's only a junior...wow. Will be interesting to see if anyone can compete with his 592.

Red, thanks for including me. It's nice to know I've done something right around here. Can't wait for this years recruiting class analysis. I did OK, I think. I have a SF and a SG that I think are OK, but not great. This season (40) for whatever reason was tough for me. Nothing seemed to gel. I lost 2 or 3 guys that I thought I had, and ran out of money. The 2 I did manage to get were SF-Thomas Hill/Oklahoma (457 rating), and SG Robert Difranco/Tennessee (455 rating).

I only ended up with 2 of the 3 I needed. Lost out on an 11 1/2 hour blind side with a SG that I would have bet money I had locked up, SG Stephen Mitchie/Pennsylvania (461 rating) to Hamilton. I also would have sworn I had SG Glenn Johnson/Massachusetts (479 rating) to Suffolk, and PF Luther Buenrostro/Michigan (447 rating) to Trinity/CT.

Goucher ended up with a guy I was scouting also, SG James Lesniak/New Jersey (471 rating). I couldn't get him to accept guaranteed minutes, a home visit or consider a scholarship. All the way up to last night he was NON-committal to everybody. Ty, nice job getting him to commit.

Thomas Hill was one of the 3 small forwards I had interested in me early, but ended up going with Moose just strictly to gain rebounding, I really liked Thomas Hill court. If he would have even had average potential with his poor rebounding, I would have tried to get hiim. He is going to be able to shoot the rock!

Red, thanks again for doing all this, my PG's are actually higher than I would have anticipated. I am not real big on either of them because of their low athleticism. Veale, my SG, I thought would have been a top SG in the conference, but seeing the guys ahead of him, that is definitely justified. There are some good SG's in the conference this year.

Our preseason analysis of Barlow is we are going to play hack a Barlow, and make him use his D+ free throw shooting. Just don't see any other weaknesses. If that doesn't work, i may just send a player over to punch Barlows coach in the face and tell him to quit being so fat......that wouldn't help stop Barlow, but it would make me feel better about him kicking my ace
