Dear esteemed vets of the hardwood;

So, I have inherited a DII team that is not very good because I want to build it from nothing to something. I have 6 open schollies and I understand that 6 is the max recruiting class. However, if I rescind a pair of schollies, can I sign two transfers, each with 3 years remaining? This would allow me to keep the 6 frosh, but add 2 higher quality ballers (hopefully) than the two sim ai scrubs I would be dropping.

Is two schollie dumps in exchange for transfers (in this manner) the max I can do?

Thanks for considering,

JRNY

Yes you can sign the transfers no problem. The rule is only 6 players in the same class. I probably wouldnt want to cut anyone. If you are talking about Franklin-Pierce theres no point in cutting anyone else because the remaining 6 guys are all going to be gone in 2 seasons anyway and unless theres a really good transfer it might be worth it just to let them graduate.

Yes, I am excited about taking over Franklin Pierce, but I have no sophomore class, and I don't like having a recruiting class with zero schollies just in case the best recruit ever happens to be 10 miles from campus. By cutting two, and replacing them with two transfers (so long as they can play), I can have 2 seniors, 2 juniors, 2 sophs, and then the 5 freshmen (plus 1 redshirt).

The hit to my rep doesn't bother me much, I should be at Franklin for at least 6 seasons, maybe more. I can get a B+ rep back to A+ eventually.

I have scouted a couple of transfers that I like (4). And there is an abundance of prospects in the Upper Northeast to choose from. With the transfers, I think I can be competitive 2 seasons from now instead of being 3 years away...

I did almost the exact same thing this season in Rupp. I signed 5 open schollies and then dumped 2 awful sim AI players and picked up one of two transfers (I lost the recruiting battle for the 2nd when I ran out of cash). I still have an A+ rep. I don't regret it at all - I would advise you to delay cutting the players as late in the recruiting period as you can ... maybe even wait until your first players sign.

You can't wait until signings start, as it's not possible to cut someone once it does. Wait until the cycle right before signings start and cut then if this is your strategy.

This is good advice JDNO. I learned this while in DIII. I guess I was wondering the maximum number of cuts I could make. Back in the day, I could redshirt more than one guy, and now I am limited to 1 redshirt. I am hoping that rules about rescinding schollies haven't changed in a similar way.

I'm not sure of the limit tbh. But I have read where some coaches have cut 3 or 4 kids and maybe lost 1/3 or max of 2/3 of a letter grade of reputation, for whatever that may be truly worth. If you cut kids before recruiting starts, then you're at risk that some other kids who you want to keep may up and quit your team. So that's a risk, but during recruiting this won't happen.

I would just add not to forget that you need to have a season remaining to make any roster cuts.

Oh, I did it right, then. I cut my players in the last recruiting cycle hoping that everyone would sign immediately. They didn't. :(

But to answer your question, yes, I was able to cut two sim players. I don't think there is a limit to how many players you can cut --- but even if there is, it's at least two.

jdno, that is only if you recruited them. If you inherited the team, you can cut as many as you wish.

As far as having an open class one year, there are benefits. If you have a decent conference, it is a great rebuilding tool. You keep all the post-season money for that year and can really go after people the following one.

i cut 3 simais and my prestige only dropped from A+ to A you have some players there out of the 6 remaining. Rebuilding ghost ship programs are the most fun.

I would keep 5 of 6 probably. - Frankel PG, SG- ?, SF- Horne, PF- ?, C- Kruse - 2nd unit- James- pg, Lundquist SG - SF- ?, PF - ?, C - ?

piratesfan... you don't take a prestige hit for cutting players period

ok, I'll take your word for it doomey. I've only cut 1 or 2 guys at most whenever I've moved up, so I can't really recall.
