When the zone is magic Topic

A buddy had this game last night in D1 Naismith which I post the box score of because it's a nightmare I sometimes have-- not being able to buy a bucket against a 2-3 zone, even with veteran players.

He shot 88 FGAs, 21 more than his opponent. 25 offensive boards, a large % of missed the missed FGAs, had the edge in turnovers, and still lost.

Notice how Mead, a 100 SPD/93 BH guard, goes 1-14.

That is a little hard to take. What's more disconcerting though, is that veteran team is gonna have to win their CT just to make the NT (and probably postseason period).

Yep, even had he gone 16-0 in the conference I doubt his RPI would have been below 90. There's one Sim in his division that is 1-20 (almost a .000 on the RPI).

I wish the zone was half as magic as press. Right now, I don't know why everyone doesn't run it. Except in phelan, where everyone does.

Whew, the smell is horrendous on his schedule lol.

Foul shooting cost you cthomas, 12 for 21 9 miss and you lost by 2. Box Score was extremely weird - 25 offensive rebounds and still lose.

On a different subject, if you were in that conf, don't you think you'd avoid scheduling 8 sims in noncon?

piratesfan: It wasn't me, I just posted it b/c it was a really weird nightmarish box score.
Reinsel: yes. I think some of the ones he scheduled were human coached at the time.

I haven't convinced him of the merits of only scheduling away games as of yet.

He was getting votes for the rankings, so I planned to do a post when he made the CT final of "16-0 in conference, ranked #15, but might miss the NT?"

Ohh , my bad cthomas. I hope i can make NT in wooden it's been rough road.

It all evens out I guess. I got knocked out of the 2nd round of the NT running a 2-3 zone by a team with a 32 PE whose highest guy was 61 PE and only two other guys over 50. The proceeded to shoot 9-14 from 3pt land in the 1st half then "cooled down" to 5-10 in the 2nd half for a combined 14-24 from deep. Of course, the very next game that team shot 4-18 or something against another defense. GOOD TIMES!

it may not have made a difference, but i would argue that he should have shot more 3s. only 15/88 shots were from beyond the arc (17%). against a 2-3 zone (w/ slow players i might add) that's +1/-1 in the first/second half, i think you would want 30-35% of your shots from beyond the arc.

it could have resulted in an 8/30 game beyond the arc, but he might have gotten hot and ended up with 12 or 15/30 (which undoubtedly would have won the game).

as someone else mentioned, FTs were also a killer.
