If you promise a recruit a starting position and give him generally 75% of the starts will that satisfy the promise? If I switch him out for a game or two in order to get some better defensive or IQ numbers will it make him mad? Any experience with this? Thanks

It depends on the personality of the player. In general it might work, but there is a chance that he will not like it.

probably will make him mad. it has been estimated that you need to start at least 90%.

used to be that 80% was enough

they made it tougher - but it depends on the kid

Like those guys said, it just depends on the player. I promised two players starts two seasons ago and gave both 75% of the starts to both doing the very thing you spoke of. On e player a PG progressed fine (work ethic), with no complaints and in fact I redshirted him his sophomore season with no complaints either. The second player a C saw his work ethic plummet from a 61 down to a 31. That C averaged about 17 minutes a game off the bench his sophomore season, never complained and still he just submitted his transfer upon the completion of the season. So that was the long and the short is IT'S A CRAP SHOOT!
