drafted players

my team:
Mordecai Brown - "Three Finger" lost part of his hand to a corn shredder at age 7. (Brown actually lost only one finger; two others were bent out of shape.) The misfortune turned into an advantage when, as a young man, Brown discovered that his reconfigured hand gave him an excellent grip for throwing curveballs. Brown became a dominant major league pitcher of the early 20th century, winning 239 games and compiling a remarkably low career ERA of 2.06.

Doc White (maybe early but this guy has become a wis favorite of mine)
George Brett (I dont think my experiment of drafting from memory is going to be able to last much longer)
Derek Jeter(never have used him)
Joe Wood(I do not remember why I wanted him, I think he threw back to back one hitters against me)
Buck Ewing (one of my favorites to use)
Elston Howard(I have never had him perform decent for me. if it doesnt work out this time I can blame it on a bad randomization)
C.C.(looks like quality ies will be important, would be awesome if he was a long relief guy)
Adrian Beltre(was very good for me last season)
Johnny Pesky (50% chance of aperfect fit)
huston street (3pack)
bj ryan(3pack)
armando benitez(3pack went with three of my favorite rp seasons, hopefully I get one of them)
Darren Erstad
Kiki Cuyler
Andruw Jones

My team:

1. Babe Ruth- enough said.
2. Mickey Mantle- Great defense, great bat, and a likeable guy in the clubhouse. That is what matters the most.
3. Ed Delahanty- Big hitter, with a great avg. Even adds his solid defense to right. Looking like an above avg. defense so far.
4. Jeff Bagwell- Once again, likebale guy and a team leader. Will prob be slotted in his familiar number 3 spot for this team.
5. Craig Biggio- Have to have both on the team for them to play well, so my right side of IF and outfield is looking best in the league right now.
2/22/2010 1:25 PM

Ed Walsh- SPBig Ed holds the record for lowest career ERA at 1.82. Hopefully a solid # 1 starter that can go every 3rd day.
Rube Waddell- SP8 good years of 10... Never used him before... Rube was one of the biggest characters that ever played the game. Seriously- look this guy's bio up...
Jake Weimer- SPgood odds to get a pretty good season from him
Andy Messersmith-SP 8 out of 10 seasons looked good if I remember...
Howie Camnitz- SP50/50 shot at a good season... 200+ innings regardless for filler

Duane Ward- RP5 of 6 good seasons
Joe Nathan- RP 8 of 10 good seasons
Rob Dibble- RP 4 of 6 good seasons
Francisco "K"-Rodriguez- RP ...if you can live with a few walks & HR's...6 of 7 good seasons
George Dumont- RP Possible stud reliever
Steve Hamilton- LRP 50/50 shot at a good season...
Mike Crudale- RP 2002 only season

Mickey Cochrane- C There were plenty of catchers out there at this spot with good careers that would have fit the bill...many with more power. But Cochrane had great odds of pulling a tremebdous season @ C & the couple times I've used him he's been a great clutch RBI or get on base guy...
Hal Trosky- 1B 7 out of 8 usuable seasons...
Roberto Alomar- 2B Had to go with the other half of my usual Alomar/Chipper teams I like to run out.
Jeff Kent- 2BInsurance plan @ 2nd base or trade bait...
Vern Stephens- SSGood potential for a good hitting SS
Alvin Dark- SSInsurance plan @ SS or trade bait...
Ke Boyer- 3BGood odds... butMay have to get a good backup just in case I get a bad draw...
Mike Lowell- 3B Insurance plan @ 3B or trade bait...great odds... only 1 bad season

Al Simmons- OF Sure... I could have snagged Chipper Jones with the high Round 3rd spot... And maybe I should have, lol... I always try to get Chipper on my teams.. I guess this season, I wanted to try it without Chipper. Been wanting Al Simmons on a team of mine for a while. Simmons has a lot of good hitting seasons... hopefully we get one of 'em...
Wally Berger- CF almost guaranteed to get an A or A+ range and a good stick in CF
Ken Williams- OF one of my favs... when he's on, he's a damn good hitter...
Billy Williams- OF Steal of a pick @ #21. Cubs HOF OF'er... 500 HR's... good average & HR seasons most years... almost guaranteed to get a productive season
Gary Sheffield- OF-lots of upside...hoping to get a real good draw from him

That is why I drafted Lady B - 600 innings (I hope) of -handed pitching :)

Much like verynice, the debaters focus early draft picks on building a solid offense. First round pick 1B Jimmie Foxx and second rounder 2B Rogers Hornsby could well form the basis for the strongest infield in the league. OF Manny Ramirez, drafted in the third round, is all but guaranteed to add another solid if not spectacular bat that will play well in the heart of the order. The trip through the middle of the Debate Squad order will not be an easy one for any opposing pitcher.

P Joey Devine, a 4th round pick, will be doing the closing for our team. Eighth Rounder Trevor Hoffman may challenge him for the job, but it is most likely he'll be serving as a keystone of the setup corps. Hoffman could see action in the 8th inning of close games.

Fifth round pick SS Luke Appling brings consistently high OBP to the field; he should set the table for my powerful group of run producers and provide the third cog in what is looking more and more like a lock to be the most productive infield in the league.

Kid Nichols and Jake Peavy, 6th and 7th round picks, will lead the starting pitching for our team.
