Can somebody take a look and tell me why I didn't destroy this team? I must be missing something somewhere.

Because you're not that much better than him and you were on the road.

He played a -3 and took away your inside game. You make yourself almost 1 dimensional when you put up 12, 3 pointers and 50ish other FG attempts.

Not sure why you expected to "destroy" that team...

So I'm pretty sure that defense means nothing but then there are the free throws, which could be an RNG screw up. How many C free throw shooters are likely to hit both of their free throws when tired? Then there are the steals. We get less steals? Really? Oh yes. Defense doesn't count when running a FCP. In my experience, any team that has NO defense at all but runs a FCP always gets steals against a team like mine. But not when I run it? I have speed and athleticsm. Still don't see the problem other than "destroy" was a little too harsh.

Can someone else take a look? Maybe get some feedback?

Well the 3pt thing is legit. He ran a 2-3 (-3). That screams "shoot a lot of threes against me." It's difficult to pass into the zone, especially when he slouches off.

Other than that, you turned the ball over a lot and shot like crap from the line.

Why did you turn it over so much? Because you were trying to jam the ball into the post against a slouching 2-3 zone.

If you're going to do that, you better play Camara and Cessna together to get the most passing you can, and even then, you shouldn't be trying to work inside against a 2-3 (-2). As you can see, when you get it in there it's okay, but you'll turn it over a lot, too.

i think westcoast is right, swifty.

i think your team is just a little better than thiers excpet for one area..DE. and in that area you are alot better, but DE has allways been a strange beast. There have been times when i thought DE was the crititical difference between good and great teams,,, even zone teams, but then other times it does seem that teams are not really penalized for bad DE (and teams with good DE are not rewarded for it)

I really think it is just a case of a mild upset that is a bitter pill right now so early in the season, and coming on the heels of a spanking to a great team but a team you would have thought you would at least have a chance to beat.... i can feel your frustration.

I think FElecian will be just fine in the long run. and i wouldnt be a bit surprised if you come up with a win or two versus one of the tough teams on your noncon slate.

Both responses have been helpful. I guess the next question is what rating is good enough to shoot open 3's? Everyone that took them were at -1. I still get burned by players with perimeter rating in the 40's. I just thought that ones in the 50's would do ok when they are open.

Also, about the zone, I thought that it was determined by the average ratings of the players on the court? But they only committed 3 more fouls? Does this make sense or is there something I am missing on this as well?

Thanks oldave and to the others as well.

What sucks is that I am feeling the bitterness from 3 separate teams at the same time. This is a first for me and 2 of the teams were preranked while the third was just off the list. Nothing is going right.

I think that you may have misunderstood. They were saying that you should have taken more 3's, not less, against the sagging zone.

Even with my ratings being in the 50's? I don't really have any stud shooters and we only made 3 of 12 open 3's. Not really worth it if we can't shoot 30 35% right?

I don't get why you would expect to destroy this team, your team just isn't much better in any area, and add that to being on the road. If you guys played on a neutral court I can't imagine you winning more than 60% of the time, at his place it's probably about 50/50.
2/24/2010 8:03 PM
Yeah, even with guys in the 50s. You have to take what they give you. They are daring you to shoot. You might win that game sometimes if you try to work it inside like that, but you are guaranteed to turn it over a bunch.
2/24/2010 8:13 PM
Exactly. Even without GREAT PER ratings, if your opponent plays a sagging zone, you have to attack them and make them honest. If they play a -2, -3 etc zone, that highers the chance your 3s will go in but doesnt guarantee it.

And also, please do not take a 2nd look at pre rankings or rankings for that matter. Just worry about your RPI. Rankings will be better when the update is released, but as of now, it is completely worthless. Just focus on your RPI.

Trust me, I have a team that I idiotically set to not shoot many 3's. Human coached teams took away the inside and I was screwed the whole year.

Shooting another 5-10 3's a game would have forced the others to play even against me and would have opened up my down low game (which was my strong suit). Even if I only would have made 4 of the 10, thats still great and opens up the rest of the floor. I would have won a few more games.
