I'm thinking of taking a different team next season, but within the same conference I'm in now. Is there a sort of unspoken rule that taking a new team in the same conference is frowned upon?

I don't have great reasons for switching, except for that this team is an intriguing rebuilding project and it's a team I'm more interested in personally (played against them several times in college, was a finalist for an AD job there a few years ago, more familiar with the high schools in the area). I really enjoy the conference I'm in (Wooden GLVC) and the coaches are fantastic. I've asked for their thoughts in the coaches' corner, but any thoughts here would be appreciated too. Thanks!

No problem. I've done it and so have other coaches.

I don't think this is frowned upon. I could see people being jealous in some cases, like snagging UNC if the coach , but I wouldn't fault anyone for switching in conference.
