Recruit that is only 10 miles away but prefers to stay close to home. Is it worth a battle or wasted money?

Sorry, prefers to be far from home and only 10 miles away. thoughts?

The far from home piece only has a small effect in the grand scheme of things.

Worth the battle, assuming he's a good recruit. As Dalter said, the far/away from home doesn't mean much.

Let's flip the question, does that mean close to home preference is not an advantage if the recruit is 10 miles away?

I don't understand what you're asking. He prefers to be far from home, so no, if you're 10 miles away that wouldn't be helpful for you. If he prefers to be close to home and you're 10 miles away, then yes, that gives you a small bump.

It also depends how he is going to get to school. If his family does not have a car and he is not on a bus route and you do not have dorms on campus, then he is walking to school.

In that case, if it were snowing and the walk was uphill (both ways), then he would probably think that was far from home and he might give you greater preference.

Those are the things that I have my AC look for on scouting trips.

Seriously though, if he is 10 miles away, I don't care what his preference is or his favorite school. If you want him and can get him, I would go for it.

Blueraider, if you are asking is it worth it to go after them, yes. Does proximity preference give any bump, yes, but it is small, akin to favorite school; I'm sure you don't just recruit those who have you listed as favorite, right. Small advantage, not enough to lose sleep over.
