noobie WE question Topic

I know this is a noobie question but at what point do you say TOO LOW. I mean if you are looking at a good LP or PE scorer when do you say the WE is low enough to say no to the player?

Short answer:
I generally avoid anyone with WE under 10.
I think hard before signing guys with WE between 10 and 20.
I have no issue with anyone with WE over 20.

Long answer:
It really depends on the player. An A+ prestige school in my D1 conference recently signed a guy with a 1 WE.

A guy with WE that low will hardly improve at all over his career, but in this case the guy had starting ratings high enough (all cores in the 80s and 90s) to justify signing him anyway.

Basically, WE (along with potential) affects how quickly a guy improves. I have found that anyone who starts over 20 usually doesn't have trouble reaching his potential in core ratings.

Guys under 20 may not ever fully reach their potential, but with playing time, you can improve their WE, and they usually grow pretty well. If a guy has great starting ratings and a WE in the teens, I'll sign him.

Guys under 10, however, are another story. The WE is so low it is very hard to improve, even with lots of playing time. They are just never going to improve much. So, the only way I'd sign one is if their starting ratings were fantastic. This happens in D1 sometimes, but almost never in D3.

thank you I actually did get a player with a WE of one due to rookie stupidity so I wanted to set the search engine to avoid this in the future but had no idea what a good starting point would be your insight helps greatly

Yeah my feeling is similar 0-14 I never take.

15-22 I take if they will play a lot, like start every game their soph year, I figure that is enough time for them to hit their potential. I will especially take them if their ratings are good already, and I don't need them to grow much.

23-30 I will take if they are not high potential across the board and the potential is the only thing I like.

31+ is no issue for me.

The important thing is if they are good enough the WE isn't as important.

I have a player in D2 right now who is a 1 WE, but I needed big men depth 4 seasons ago so I signed him.

He was good enough then to be my backup PF and today he still is but sees more minutes. Over 4 years he has started 0 games but always put in about 6 points and 6 boards a game, he is top 10 all time in blocks at my school as well.

He had good ath, spd, rb and lp already so even though he didn't get better he was always a good enough backup for 4 seasons.
