Not DITRs, are they ZITRs or TITRs? Topic

Having completed the All-star break in Fingers the chat description for the DIRTs ranges from Z(zirconium)ITRs to T(Turds)ITRs. Regardless of your description, and despite any DITR tweaking by administration, DIRTs remain worthless.

It is time to either get rid of D(Diamond)ITRs or make them live up to the description. If they are going to call it Diamonds in the Rough - occasionally it should actually produce a diamond - that production should be semi-random but helped by the coaching received and the makeup of the player.

I could argue for either approach but if the programmers intend to keep DIRTs this is what I think needs to happen:

1) All players in their 1st three years of pro ball should be eligible for the DITR "magic wand" - even 1st round draft picks and IFAs.

2) the extent of the potential improvement for a selected player should be based on the quality of coaching (esp knowledge, discipline and patience) modified by the makeup of the player.

3) "Jake O'Brien (P) must have been eating his Wheaties. This guy has just had a career changing transition, I would highly recommend that you look at him a bit closer." 50% of the "pop in potential" should be immediately reflected in the current ratings - after all if the player has had a career changing jump in ability THE COACHES/SCOUTS SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE/MEASURE IT.

Or:

Just lower your expectations for DITR's. Stop complaining that your 17th rounder every year is not magically turning into Albert Pujols.

Seriously, people need to stop expecting that they should be getting surprise studs every season, and if they don't, then DITR is broken or should just be discontinued.

Take it for what it is. Not for what it isn't.

My only DITR experience since the change is in one world, but I did notice that the guys who continued to benefit the most were RP and C and that those guys, under the new system, improved to be "big leaguers". They were (SSS warning) projecting better than the RP and C who got the DITR bump before the change.

IOW, be on the lookout for a future SuB or platoon C, just like you always have, and when you get them, be happy. Because the DITR thing is useful in the minor leagues - more guys who top out at AAA and AA instead of LoA are good for the overall health of the organization.

I consider this a potential guy for my bullpen. I know the splits are not great, but a 79/81 dur/health. Drafted in the 13th round of this season's draft.

Projections are:
Stamina 41
Control 64
VL 50
VR 50
Vel 85
Fly/Grou 76
P1 98
P2 87

To bad you can not read carefully or think, Tecwrg - Presently, I expect nothing from DITRs, because nothing is all it ever delivers. If that is how it is going to stay then just get rid of it. If DITRs is going to be kept then rename it (I am warming to TITRs) or fix it. As things are, DITRs is an annoyance that should be put out of its misery. (Makes me wonder if the people who thought up DITRs are also responsible for the crap coming out of DC)

he may believe it but his employer shouldn't

Yeah defensive stud catchers with power who can hit ies have no BL value.

Anyway, in 15 seasons of MG, I've gotten two DITR that will play roles in the bigs. Seems like a reasonable amount.

I would agree that ratio seems fair, for hbd. So far in J5B I have had 1 potential MLB DITR after 3 full seasons. And even that usuable DITR would be more of a LHS short reliever.

got to love that eye of ZERO -- at the plate he will think a knockdown pitch is down the middle

I think, on the whole, I've gotten 4 who could be worthwhile BL players. A RP in HJ that I immediately traded because he was "found" money. Jermerzek or something. And a 1B who never made a BL impact because I just couldn't him to the bigs. Byrne or something(also MG).

So, once every 15 seasons, I get a good one. Can't complain about that.

If you would like to call them Barely Usable MLers in the rough (BUMLITR or BUMs for short) I can agree to that - but since there never has been and never will be a Diamond (under the present system) stop pretending they are DITRs and call them what they are - BUMs.

Seriously, is there a list of DITR somewhere? I know mine are typically those wonderful LowA pitchers that suddenly get a huge boost in dur/sta so they can parlay their 30/30 splits into a stunning AA career.

Or is this something we were supposed to be tracking ourselves...?

Jesus. What a stupid argument.

Complaining about DITRs is like complaining that you never won a $100m Powerball jackpot, even though you've purchased 2 tickets a week for the past 10 years. Should you write a letter to the people who run PB and tell them that they should just discontinue the lottery or make changes to the format of the lottery because, damnit, you've never won?

Think of DITRs as free lottery tickets. Most of the time, you get zero. Sometimes, you win $5 or $10. But there's always a chance, however minute, that you'll win something substantial.
