How much "weight" dose a regular season champ hold in reference to prestige increase?

Very little.

What kind of prestige bump should I be expecting?

As in real college basketball, the regular season title means nothing; as in real college basketball it makes little to no sense that the CT for some reason carries the automatic bid.

beef, I think you'll go to a D+.

Dunno, could be tight with no post-season and that RPI...

I would agree with dalter. I moved from D to a D+ at Jackson St with a worse season than the one that beefpac had.

Same reason why a tournament decides the national champion.

No, they're different.

I would agree with mmt (and I think it's pretty obvious, actually) that when it comes to qualifying for the tournament/playoffs, it's far more meaningful to judge teams based on their overall body of work rather than what they've done for the last few games. That's how it's done in every other sport, both college and pro.

The CT system exists to create excitement and TV revenue, not because it's the most logical and fair way to do things.

Did I ever say this wasn't the reason? I just said both are done for the same reason.

But I will say I think it's hypocritical to say a single elimination tournament which only includes <20% of the teams in D1 is an acceptable way to decide a true national champion and then turn around and say a single elimination tournament that includes 100% of the teams in a conference isn't an acceptable way to decide a true conference champion. If 1 is ok then so should the other. I'm not defending the methods in which both conference and national champs are decided, just disagree with saying one is fine and the other isn't.

And not surprisingly, the Ivy League is the only league that properly awards its auto-bid to the RS conference champion as they have no conference tournament because they respect the competition, athletic, and academic elements of NCAA Sports and have never sold out to/for the almighty dollar as all the other money whores have. Just another reason to love the Ivy League as they are truly the smartest conference in America.
