How important is this promise? Topic

I just got my first DI job (Colgate) and have a SG that I recruited and promised 10 minutes to. Things are not going as I thought they would and I'm having a hard time getting him the minutes. Considering the fact that I'm basically rebuilding the team from the bottom up, how important is it that I don't break my promise? Is it worth sacrificing a win or two to get him the minutes?

He will possibly transfer if you dont keep it

I'm assuming he's 3rd string. If you put him at 2nd string for 1/2 of your games, you'll come pretty close to the 10 minute average

How much will it hurt me in any other way besides loosing him if he transfers?

I believe it will effect your rep if you try to move up in schools. However, if you plan on staying a while, I wouldn't worry too much if it's Ayers you're speaking of, his Ath/Spd isn't all that great for D-1.

Even if he leaves, you still get an open schollie for next season, but as mentioned it will hurt you a bit if you try to move up to a high prestige school. Plus you have 5 other freshman.

Ayers is a Center, the original post said a Shooting Guard. Try to keep up.......

I think if you are rebuilding then lessen the focus on winning and get him the minutes even if its at the expense of an older player especially if you think hes going to be a big part of your plans in the future.
