fastest way to d1? Topic

with phelan applications opening shortly i have a quick 'what should i do' question. I'm currently coaching dowling d2. I want the fastest track to divison one in this world. I have an A- rep with an A- loyalty. I rpi'd in the 90s (with no tourney play), and rpi'd in the 70s and played one game in the PIT. With Oldresorter in my conference I'm playing for an At-large bid every season if i want to make NT. For a faster track to divison 1, should i take the loyalty hit, and take more of an NT lock? Or should i stick it out here, dont take the loyalty hit, but play with outside shots of making NT every year.

One coach shouldn't be stopping you every year, and switching schools within DII is never going to get you to DI faster.

I mean, come ON - your conference is 2/3 Sim. You should be able to make the NT, even with 2-3 losses to OR each year.

It makes sense what he's saying. He picked up a semi-rebuild, and might be a season or two away from tournament quality team, and will always be aiming for an at-large.

That being said, I'd stick with your current team.

Stay where you are.

D2 has the most at large bids available anyways. Just schedule well in non conf to get your rpi up and it's not hard

you should be worthy of at large bids if you want to compete in d1, anyway. i think you should take advantage of the fact that you have one of the greatest coaches of all time, if not the greatest, in your conference. you could really learn a lot from the experience if you work at it.

Exactly. Learn from the master, become a steady NT team before you get to D1 or you will get crushed. D1 is harder than D2/D3 for sure in most worlds.

So if you just post winning records without NT or PIT appearances how long does it take to get considered for D1 jobs?

Except that OR isnt even paying attention to his teams anymore

whatever. if he is still doing well enough that the OP figures he has 0% of winning the CT, then he must be doing good enough :)

plus OR has long said he basically sets em and forgets em. i just don't have the experience for that, but i can definitely see how it could work. the biggest importance of game planning is learning something to put together a better team plan, and to learn something about the sim engine mechanics, not to effect the outcome of the game in question.

a LONG, LONG time. DI is about NT (not even PIT). You need NT wins (not just appearances) or a lot of wins (probably 300 or more at DII)

true, however i would think the biggest benefit of having a top coach in your conference would be being able to ask him questions in the CC.

NT wins and improvement are the key. I jumped from D3 to D1 after 5 years so it can be done in a short amount of time.
