Long ago in the Tark forum, it was argued that D3 teams should avoid recruiting SFs and instead play posts or guards in that position. Of course, there were those who argued against this, even back then.

What do people think about this today?

In my 3 seasons of WIS (I know right, super experienced ;)) I would argue that a great small forward can impact the game more than any other position due to the fact that there are so little true good SF's in D3.

I still think its the same. The best argument i've heard was I think oldresorter's. You have 12 categories for ratings and at D3 assume you on average you are splitting those up out of approx. 500 points. With a modest 40 in WE, 75 in ST, and 35 in DU. That leaves 350 pts to split up 9 ways.

350/9 = 39 per rating

So your going to suffer somewhere, be it speed, defense or another category. Thats usually why vets just add a 3rd guard or 3rd post. Just what i've seen....but things could have changed.

I dont have a D3 team anymore but I dont since potential came out I have yet to have a SF at D2 that I am really happy with even with an A+ prestige. It just seems like they are all average across the board except for maybe 1 or 2 high potential spots and just never improve to a level where they have an impact on the game.

In D2 I think you can find fantastic athletic/defense/rebounding machines at the SF spot.

Norm24, arguably the best D3 coach in the game, has built some fantastic teams around two scoring SFs.
