I asked a question previously about demotion penalties and was told that there were no penalties if you demoted players during the playoffs. I promoted a player from one of my minor league teams that did not make the playoffs to AAA so that he could continue to play and then demoted him after they lost the playoff series. Now I noticed that he suffered a 2 point demotion penalty. Is there anything I can do about this or did I misunderstand the rule?

Was the major league season still going on when you made the demotion?

Sounds like you were given bad advice. To my knowledge, the only post-season demotions that are "safe" are 40 man roster call-ups to the bigs. I don't think you can bounce minor leaguers around to play at whatever level has a playoff team and then bounce them back.

I was thinking that as well, but wasn't positive.

I'll promote guys for minor league playoffs, but only to the levels where I plan to play them the following season so that I wouldn't have to worry about demotions.

It's logical. If not, why not demote AAA/AA prospects to the HiA playoff team? And, if the HiA loses, send them to the rookie team that's still playing.

I could be wrong but I think once the Major League playoffs start the demotion penalty goes away.

It doesn't happen all the time, but you will suffer occasional penalties for demotions done during the playoffs. It's a really dumb feature of HBD, but it will happen.

Why is it dumb?

It prevents you from bouncing your best dozen prospects around the minors in hopes of getting them the most playing time. Do you think Washington would send Strausberg to LoA for the playoffs to dominate?

My low A and Hi A teams did not make the playoffs so I moved the best prospects up to AAA and AA. When I moved them back down to where they will play next year, 3 of my best prospects suffered demotion penalties. I'll know for next year.

And that is EXACTLY what the demotion penalty is designed to prevent. You're trying to work the system, and instead the system (deservingly) worked you.
