I want to get rid of

We just rolled over, are resigning coaches and FA's. Will start arb, tomorrow. He's arb eligible one more time...But I just want to let him go, I think.

Can I just release or waive him, or am I stuck with his demanded salary?

How do I dump him?

You can release him before arb with no salary obligation.

BUT . . . if you sign him and keep him one more season, you can let him walk as a FA next season and probably get comp picks for him.

Something to consider.

He's demanding $7.5M (Egads!) for next season......and even if I let it slide to 70%...then he's still into me for $5M....

Not sure how much less he would sign for.

Man those are some amazing yellow numbers. Objectively speaking, he is worth crap at the ML level. Release him and spend the money helping yourself win.

Release him. If he's still around at the end of spring training, you can resign him at a much lower price, and then let him go FA after the season.

If I couldn't get a taker in a trade, I'm pretty sure I'd dump him. You'd have to overpay him for the next two seasons before he'd hit free agency and likely land you a couple picks as a Type A.

Wouldn't really want to carry overpriced dead weight like that for more than one year.

release him, no doubt, 2 more seasons until free agency and who knows whether or not he'd even get signed and net you the picks
