Walk-on Help for new player Topic

So I just concluded my first recruiting period, and it didn't go so well. I got a PG that I wanted, but I only filled one of three scholarships. So now I have two walk-on players.

I read somewhere that having walk-ons impairs the improvement of your scholarship players. Should I offer scholarships to one or both of my walk-ons?

Thanks.

no, neither is scholarship worthy. I've had as many as four walk-ons and yes it does have an effect, but not one that you want to suffer with those two guys for four seasons.

Thanks.

Is it a bad idea to offer scholarships and then cut them next year?

you can cut a sim-recruited player or one recruited by a former coach, but if you sign a guy and then cut him it will effect your loyalty.

if you cut them next year you will not get $6000 ($3000 each) to fill the openings....so it would be a very bad idea to give them scholarships and then cut them.

Ahh ok. Great info. Thanks a lot.

You got your rotations set yet. get

It only hurts your practice if you have MORE than 2 walk-ons. You're fine.

Also, I love your user name.

Schott, Renwick, Woodard, McMillan , Fransen would be my starting 5. Bench - Smith, Oram, Kautz, Forst , Kolosky. As bench would probably be my rotation.

Not trying to sound like an *** (but it's gonna come off that way), but Pirates, I have often wondered why you're so quick to give everybody else advice on their lineups and rotations when, outside of one season at Montclair State, you've often struggled with your own teams. Don't you think it might be wise to take care of your own teams first, become a consistent winner, build up a little credibility, and THEN begin to offer some advice.

I know if I was a new coach and was offered advice on subjects like lineups, rotations, distro, etc., I'd damn sure check out the history of the coach providing said advice. If he was a stud, it would certainly hold more weight than if he was an average or mediocre coach. Just saying.......

I think the quality of the advice is more important than who says it. I am in my first season of HD so I don't know who gives good advice or who doesn't, but I think I can usually distinguish which posts are worth looking into a little further.

Emy, Those rotations are my opinion. You have a lot hate towards me giving my opinion it seems. I'm a d3 coach i know this. I'm not in the big bad d1 where you get what 3 to 5 times more money to recruit with if not more. I can respect you built Wake Forest into a consistent winner. But some day if you want to take a shot vs. me in d3 were the competition is knock down drag out 10 times harder in wooden world i would welcome it. I play this sim for the fun of it I love rebuilding programs only program ever i took that wasnt a rebuild was MontClair St. and it got boring after a while when everyone the conference to move up to D2. So i went back to d3 Fitchburg in little east built that team for someone to take it so we could build the Little East up so we could keep Palmetto Bugs around and built the conference into winner were conf rpi has gone from 26 to 9 since i joined Rhode Island. So back to your original statement why im i so quick to offer my opinion cause when i first started i never had anyone to offer suggestions to me. These are just opinions getbedard will set up his team the way he chooses fit.

Emy-

I, as well as many of my constituents in the NAC in Wooden, have turned on the "hide messages from other conferences" option on our CC for precisely that reason.

I've argued this bullshit argument before. You look at my resume and you'll see that my FIRST season in Wooden, which was about my fifth or sixth ever in HD resulted in a Final Four appearance. Four seasons later, there was another one. All you D3 Wooden coaches act like it's oh-so-difficult to win there. Well guess what, if it was, then how could I come in and have instant success like that? It might be the toughest world D3-wise, but it ain't that tough.......If I had ANY interest whatsoever in playing D3 again, I'd join Wooden in a heartbeat, but since I don't, I guess we'll just have to imagine what would happen if we played. Based on coaching histories, I've got a pretty good idea............
