Minor League Fielding Averages Topic

Has anyone ever put together fielding averages for each level of the minors (as opposed to just the BL averages in the game)?

I wouldn't worry about recommended numbers for minor leaguers. The entire point of the minors is for development. Just play your prospects at the positions appropriate for their projected fielding ratings and that will be your best course of action.

I've just run into situations where I don't have enough SS/CF types in my system that are projected to make it to the AAA level as a fielder, so I have to fill holes.

So use your best option. Having numbers to look at won't change what you have available.

As much as I hate answering questions that weren't asked, that might not be the best answer. I have what I call the "three year plan". I determine who my "true" prospects are and form a three season plan for them. It usually ends with them being in AAA at some point in S3 but that's how I work it. So, if you do something like that, "so use your best option while working within the constraints of that plan" is probably the best answer.

In other words, if you end up with 3-1B/DH at the same level, don't sit one because there aren't enough positions. Just stick one in LF.

Too long.

i use LF, DH and 1B in the minors as kind of interchangeable.

I also always try to get at least 1 defensive SS in the draft in the 5th round or so, so i can have one really good guy at every level.

everything after that is gravy..

I agree with Mike and Trobone:

1 - Use your best option at SS unless you have an ML shortstop-of-the-future who needs experience at the position to hone his skills.

2 - Stock up in the draft. After I've ranked all the prospects on my board with ML potential, defensive SS's get bumped up.
