Relief Pitching Specialists Topic

I've got a guy who only has a 13 stamina... but he's dynamite against LH hitters. I've designated him as my y specialist, but he's only pitched about 6 innings in the first 110 games of the season.

Why does HBD have it setup to where specialists only throw against the opposing teams BEST hitter? I would think that in the 7th, 8th, or start of the 9th, the specialist should get the assignment against ANY LH hitter... and for sure get in the game, if the opposing team has back-to-back LH hitters in the lineup.

Anyone have any advice on how to get more miles out of my LH specialist?

WiS claimed in a Dev Chat once that the LH and RH specialists were working exactly as intended, which is ridiculous considering how infrequently they get brought into the game. There should at least be a separate setting for them so you can choose how aggressive you want to be with throwing them out there; I have a feeling that the current setting is that they only come in for high-leverage situations against one of the team's 2-3-4 hitters or some similar outregeous criteria (not based on evidence, since I gave up trying to figure out the specialists a long time ago).

My somewhat unhelpful advice would be to either (a) forget about the specialist and try to pawn him off on another unsuspecting owner who uses specialists, or (b) keep him around and enjoy the 12 innings per year you'll get out of him (which will, to be fair, be helpful innings). At the moment I really have no idea how to get more usage out of them, save for increasing their pitch counts, but that leaves them open to having to pitch to batters that don't fall into their specialty. I will say that you could change his "inning available" to "Any" which will allow him to get brough into more games.

Couldn't you use him (or any specialist) as a setup b, or closer b for most games, and change him to a specialist based on a team heavy with ies or righties? Just curious, never tried it.

The whole point of specialist setting is supposed to be so you can have say a y come in, get 1 out against a , and get yanked. If you have him setup a/b/etc... he could come in against anyone.

My RHS throws fairly often. He has 36 IP through 51 games in S15.

I have his pitch setting at 35/45. Sometimes he only faces one batter, but he's gone as much as 3.2 IP against an all-righty lineup.

Thanks for the replies guys...

My ideal goal for my -handed specialist, would be for him to pitch against a handed batter atleast once every three games... and escpecially if they're two -handed batters back-to-back in a lineup.

Currently, all you're getting out of the -handed specialist is about 10 pitches every 7 or 8 games... because he'll only come in if you're facing the most feared handed hitter on the opposing team.

I feel that that specialist should be opened up to face ANY -handed hitter in the opposing lineup... not just the most feared.

I have specialist on two teams. One team is 120 games in and my LHS has pitched 12 innings in 14 appearances. The other team is 111 games in and my RHS has pitched 22 innings in 28 appearances.
