Pulling ’em down???? Topic

What are your thoughts on pulling guys down? I generally wait till they drop, but that is because I am not very good at pulling....Is it a few scouting trips with home visits? I swear I've tried a lot of methods without much success.

I'm asking the vets out there, and yes I know how to identify the guys who have no shot with the language in their e-mails. I'm talking about the recruits that tell me words like "back-up option" and such.

Thanks!

scouting trips and lots of them.

I have pulled down guys using 10 scouting trips. Some have done it with 8 and sometimes 20 isn't enough. I would start with 8 or 10 trips and a scholarship offer and see what happens.

I'm no recruiting guru by any means, still learning every time I do it, but I pulled Lawrence Hermanson down w/ Washington (MO) in Phelan with 5 trips and a scholly offer and he's one of the best young centers in D3, imo. I'd say the biggest thing I've seen so far is the distance is a big factor.

The biggest advantage/tool to pulling down players is Team Prestige (A+ or A) and previous season/s RPI & previous season/s Ranking.

I asked this a while ago in another thread but never saw a reply. Is it easier to pull a guy down/more likely that he will drop down from D2 to D3 if he's ineligible? Does he take into account that he won't be able to play in D2 but he can in D3? Or is it a non-factor?

I think it's a non-factor

home/campus visits are rejected until a guy drops down. so they aren't an option in terms of pulling a guy down. the 10 scouting trip estimate is a good one for d2. for d3, i think 5 will often get the job done, but its been a while.

to the last question asked, about ineligibles, i think they are no easier to sign nor are they more receptive to lower prestige schools (meaning, if an eligible 167sg will talk to your d2 program but an eligible 166sg won't, if the 166sg was ineligible, he still wouldn't talk to you).

Ive never had 5 work in d3

I just put 12 into a guy at d3 and he didn't drop.

P.S. He was ineligible.

So basically my C- prestige D3 school is not getting any pulldowns. Wait for them to drop and then hope the higher-prestige D3 schools don't gobble them up first?

not at all, dahs. guys that look like droppers to you may already be on the d3 screens of the guys with better prestige.

at d3, i rarely sign guys who are originally on my d3 screen, and i only wait for them to drop if they are too far away to give em 10-12 scouting trips to get em to drop.
