If I trade for a player currently in AAA who has no Minor League Options , can I assign him to my AAA roster?

Or will I have to put him on my ML roster and risk losing him on waivers if I demote him?

See, this one blows me away too. A player is playin in the Minors, I trade a minor player for him, but because he has no options I have to waive him before I can assign him to the minors.

Does anyone know if this is a MLB rule, or just a sim rule?

I think it is more of a bug in HBD (known by all including WiS, but they fail to do anything about it) ... in the real MLB, no player on the 40 without options can be put on a minor league roster without passing through waivers in that season

in HBD, a guy on the 40 without options can "stay" in the minors as long as you want ... you just can't demote/assign him to the minors from the majors

and you see the absurdity of this rule when you trade for a guy like that

but why trade for a guy like that...if he isnt in the majors yet and has no options...he most likely isnt a ml player anyway...

it could be a defensive specialist SS that is the emergency backup in AAA ... I know I tend to hoard one or two of those guys on my 40 in case one of my ML SS get injured

if you don't have one of those or pick up a team where the prior owner didn't value defense, you might need to trade for a guy like that

of course, if that was the issue, you wouldn't be concerned about not being able to get him to AAA ... so I guess I do support the point of why trade for a career AAA guy if you too merely want to send hom to AAA

There are some IFA's who are signed to ML deals and run out of options, but arent quite ready for the bigs.
