Does a players spot in the lineup effect his performance? I have always been curious to this question and I have been documenting my '86 Tim Raines and here's what happened....

I had Luis Castillo leading off to start the season, Raines batting second. Raines started off extremely so but worked his way up to batting .296, .354, .419 after about 90-100 games.

I then switched them and Raines exploded batting in the #1 spot going 116/218 for a .532 BA.

Castillo on the other hand has been consistent at both spots, and didnt notice anything drastic when I moved him to the #2 spot. Raines's stats to date are .333, .390, .484 with a few games . Anyone have any input or stats to go along with this theory? Im sure it was just coincidence, but im curious to see if anyone else has any input.

100% coincidence. lineup spot has no effect on an individual's performance.

Not sure if this has ever been asked, but does the SIM factor in succeeding hitters?

For example, in real life, Albert Pujols is probably more likely to see good pitches with Matt Holliday batting behind him as opposed to Ryan Ludwick.

Is a guy more likely to get a hit/get walked in the SIM if he has a good hitter behind him?

Sample size is way to small to gather anything from that Irish.

The sim doesn't work that way. A player either is intentionally walked or gets a normal plate apearance.

I can see the computer crashing as the SIM software tries to embrace all the subtleties of a real game. :)
