I see everyone saying that press is terrible. Zone or man? Discuss.

the press with low defense is fouling alot, resulting in very high ft attempts. no more high sd,ath 10 def for the press. not sure about the low iq press factor on fouling..

I never got people saying def wasn't important in fcp before. I tried ignoring it and just going for ath/sp and got murdered with fouls pre-change. So I don't see that part as different at all...but I think I'm in the minority there.

Maybe zone will have a resurgence. With a lot more press teams worrying about def, and man teams in general, low def guys will be cheaper and easier to find.

I like press/zone for now. Zone keeps me from fouling/tired while giving me some blocks, and the press allows me to still get some steals and wear them down. I've decided I'll stick with it, and am finally putting 15 minutes into zone.

i do have a question, why cant we play 1~3~1 zone? that is a major zone, will man2man actually be worth it? i love have a killer defense and used to always be man2man at d2. zone just seems the easiest to put up with and still have a good offense at lower levels.

Delta State in Iba is still running FB/Press with high success. It's not dead. You just need stamina, defense, and depth.

okay, good. i was just trying to see if there was anyone else who was not necesarily agreeing with the "press is dead" crowd.

i think maybe us fastbreakers had leg up here as we hae had to run 11-12 deep with good stamina (or 10deep with great stamina) all along.

dealing with fatigue, and preparing for it, is nothing new for us.

From a former FB/Press coach at Curry. . .'

People are making the same mistakes there were before with the Press only now they aren't getting away with them:

1: Ignoring the defense rating
2: Not having enough stamina
3: Not being deep
4: Running it with an uptempo offense, especially fastbreak when #2 and #3 are true.

A large amount of the people who play press and claim its now useless fit into at least two if not all four of those points - at least of the ones I have seen posted and looked at their team/games.

I almost forgot, you can add #5: Not having a good press IQ.

I still like press and used it in the beta

press has still been magic for my LSU team this year - But I do have a team avg DEF rating of 93.

I will say this. I have run zone since I started HD and have yet to make a final four. With the onset of this new engine, I have less fouls than my opponents thus far, but even with pretty solid Zone IQ's, I wouldn't say it was "magic" like the press used to be called by many of you.

I've only run a zone since I've come to HD and have had decent success with it. Granted, I've never made it deep into the NT, but I took a team to Final Four in D3 in the PIT. I've found the majority of my success in games where I ran the matchup zone...doubling the PG if he is a good BH and Passer with High IQ. It's a high risk/high reward defense. I couple it with a slowdown motion on offense and keep the ball in my possession as much as possible. It's worked well defensively, but my offense was especially terrible this past season. Went 12-16, and my ppg margin was 0.8. I focused my recruiting on ATH/SPD/DEF/REB...great for defense. Most of what I have now is a soph class, so I'll see how it works when they are seniors.

Considering moving to a press/zone...any advice?
