New Engine Quirk : 3PT adjustments? Topic

In the old engine the offense would adjust the number of 3PT attampts based on the setting of the defense. With ther same distributions you might throw up 30% of your shots from the arc against a -5 and only 10% of your shots aganist a +3.

Through 11 games in Smith it seems like there is no such adjustment. In fact I've had games where we "randomly" throw up more 3s against a + defense than a - defense.

CS says the offense looks at the defensive matchups more in the new engine. Is anyone else also seeing this?

Yeah, lots of people have noticed the same thing.

I believe much of the thread below was based on this issue:

And just to throw in my two cents: My Maryland team in Phelan played Clemson last night and they do not take a lot of threes, so I played a minus 5 defense. Even though I played minus 5 the entire game, Clemson only took 4 three pointers, making 2 of them.

mniven - I saw that thread. I think the bulk of that was talking about the distribution aspect. I am referring specifically to this post from dalter :

2) Ignoring the percentage of a particular player shots, shouldn't the percentage of three point shots be a bit higher than the proscribed settings when going up against a (-) defense?

They do. The same player with the same setting will take more 3p's against a -3 than he would against a +3 (for example).

But what I am seeing is the same player with the same setting is NOT taking more 3Pters against a -3 than he would against a +3 for example.

They've requested complaints/observations via tickets, b/c Seble can't check every forum thread. Submitting them with detailed observations is the only way we can expect to see change.

Creating threads like this is a way to gather these detailed observations. It will carry more weight if we can submit examples from more than one coach.

What might be useful is if coaches can post examples of three point shooting games against extreme minus defenses (or extreme plus defenses, for that matter). Like I said earlier, Clemson taking only 4 threes against a minus 5 defense seems odd. Unfortunately, I almost always play plus defenses, so I don't personally have too many examples.

Only other one I can think of is that my Adelphi team in Tark played a minus 4 press a few games ago and we only shot 7 threes, making 4 of them.

Just played +4 again and they put up 27 3's (and made 13 of them). Easily top 5 worst teams I've ever played against...and of course they beat us.

Cmon you have to post the game. I can't beleive you didnt mention the star played the entire game

I'd say this is one of the new engine results that would back up the arguement that says.... it sucks.

You ought to send this one to CS wrapped in a diaper.

udm, is there a reason you continue to run uptempo? Self-flaggelation?
6/7/2010 3:43 PM
I would have used uptempo in that game as well.

Yep, OK, I stand corrected. I thought he'd been using it every game. I don't get that game.

Right. I haven't even been going FCP every game, but I really had no choice against a team with 6 scholarship players.

I didn't want it to turn into a "whoa is me" type thing. Tried to stick to the topic, which is the 3 pt'ers. But my God, that game ticks me off.

sent a ticket on mully's advice. CS already responded and said it did seem off and will look into it. So a tip of the cap to cs for the quick response time.

Release note from today:

06/07/2010

  • For the new engine, made an adjustment to the number of 3-point shots players will take compared to 2-point shots. The most obvious change will be fewer 3's by players with much higher LP than PER, and more 3's by players with high PER and low LP.
