Three point jacking Topic

So my star shooting guard just went 5-21 in a 2 point loss. All 21 of those shot attempts were three pointers.
He's got a 70 in per, so I've had him at +1 all season for threes. He's taken a little more per game than I'd like, but it's been working all right as he's averaging about 25 points a game. But he also has an 80 ath. and a 72 speed.
Why on earth would he shoot nothing but threes in a game? We run a triangle, and the opponent was playing m2m (0) (-1 second half)
was this just a random oddity of the new engine, or do I need to scale his three pointers down?

I'd send a ticket. 21 3's seems way out of line. +1 "shouldn't" be too overly dramatic in terms of shot selection. And the 0 and -1 defenses certainly aren't, especially considering it's m2m.

Plus one is in relation to his normal shooting percentages. What is his LP?

LP is 9

Please do not try to defend this. Even seble will come out and say the chang went too far.

Explaining is not defending. . . ..

And I agree completely and without reservation that it went too far.

No matter what Chang thinks

Mainly I just wanted the other piece of data in the set which was his LP. Given that the Ratio of the Per and the LP has much to do with shot selection; If his lp had been thirty, it would have been a WORSE problem.

i know i have been cring about it all over the forums, but it seems pertinent here, so ill add it:

i had a similar expereince although i have a fairly even distro type team. so it wasnt 21 treys for one player... it was 56 threes for the team... in one game!

my best guess was that this was related to the june7 update.

the update says the shot selection part of te enginewas modified so that players with high PE / low LP woul take a higher percentage oftheir shots outside the arc compared with what they were dong before the update.

my team is a FB/pr and my main scorers are :

  • my starting SG who shoots the treeball really well and so is at +1
  • my starting SF (who is listed as a SG and has high PE/ low LP and has been at +1 because when he was at zero and playing SF, he wasnt shooting enough threes.)
  • my backup SF (who is also a natural SG and ditto everything above)
  • my backup PF (who is a natural SF with 79LP/ 69PE, but he shoots the three fairly well, but under the old engine you had to put PFs at +2 if you wanted them to shoot any threes at all. even at +2 he was only taking about 1 or 2 treys per game.
so, for the most part these are guys who are a little unusual and i wated to make sure i took 20-25 threes in this game as i was up against a 2-3 zone. now, little did i know that my opponent was going to gaurd the perimeter with +2 and then shift to a +4 at halftime. but that seemed to matter not at all as my guys hoisted threebombs at a rate that I personally have never ever seen in all my HD years (okay,, perhaps with bingball i saw it, but never anything remotely like that with one of my teams)

So, here's my questions:

  • do you think that the new release patch was necesary?
  • do you think it caused my team to shoot a barrage of threes which would not have happened before the "fix"?
  • do you think it is right that they released it pretty much unannounced in midseason? granted, they did announce it, but i dont see how a reasonable person would have read that and gathered that a triplefest was forthcoming unless they made drastic changes to their 3pt +/- and made sue everyone was at zero or less.

"Three Point Jacking" sounds like an adult film IMO.

okay, first, what is the problem we are discussing? I think decks felt like it was a problem that his player shot 21 treys and no 2pt FGs... right?

so, first of all, how does it get worse?

second of all, my understanding of the new patch is that the numebr of threes a player shoots is related to his PE/LP ratio.

So, a player with 70PE/9LP is going to take alot of threes (that much is clear)

if this player had 30LP, then he would have taken fewer threes... right? and that would have made the situation BETTER, since decks is looking for his dude to shoot less threes.

thats why I was a little puzzled by ab's post

Let me put it this way: If he had been shooting all threes with a 70 to thirty ratio it would have been a worse glitch for him to shoot all threes than if he had been (As he was)shooting all threes with a 70 to 9. I didn't know the low post until told.

Second, Arssanguinus/me = same.

oh... okay. sorry.

that makes sense now
