Probably won't sign. Topic

Drafted a guy 16th who said "Probably won't sign. He's got his heart set on going to college."  He asked for 8 million and I gave it to him.  Is it almost certain that he will not sign.  I've never had a guy sign in this situation, but I'd love this guy to sign.  Does anyone have any idea what the percentages are?

If he has an agent, there is some chance of signing; I'm not really sure exactly what.  If he is represented by his mom there is almost no chance, although I have seen one sign.

Well I believe that it is less than 25%.  But I will also echo dedelman's point about the mother as agent scenario.  I have also only seen one of them sign and that was after they almost doubled their asking price.

Good luck though.

I've commented on this issue many times.  If you want him, be prepared to pay more, but most of all, be prepared to offer again and again and again.  This same scenario played out for me a few seasons back.  I earmarked his bonus for an international after I got that message and initial rejection.  When the internationals went dry I just offered what I had left (about $9M of his $11.5M second asking price) over and over.  I had nothing better to do with the money.  He refused every time...........until the last time.  After the regular season was over and before the playoffs began.

Good luck.

That's how the guy in my world got the player rep'd by his mom to sign.  He just kept upping his offer by $100K until the guy finally gave in and signed.  It was $11.7M, a record in our world for a draftee;  momma got a nice house.
