Does the chance of accepting a redshirt increase as the season progresses? I offered a guy a redshirt in preseason and he freaked. However, it is now the end of nonconf and he has not played a single minute and is eligible for a redshirt. Should I do it?

Yes.....I've had a player reject the redshirt before the first pre-season game. Then, accept it when he didn't play during that game

Just tried it and he turned me down.  I offered a redshirt and then retracted it during the recruiting. I wonder if that affects this?

I have a freshman at Duke that I didnt make any promises to and sat the entire season without 1 second of playing time.  I offered him the redshirt with 4 reg season games left and he freaked (lost 50 in WE).  I then offered it to him again right after the CT and again he freaked.  We lost in the 2nd round of the NT.  I offered it to him after we lost and again he freaked.  I took it off him cause it is a waste for a guy to go through off-season improvement at a 7 WE instead of a WE.  I thought this was bogus since any athlete in their right mind would understand that a coach is giving them a chance to save a season of their eligibility.

I sent in a ticket and they said that they currently have no code written to take into account what point of the season a team is in when a player will either accept or reject a redshirt.  So it's luck of the draw fellas.  I thought for sure the guy would have taken the RS after we lost in the NT...

Good info. Thanks. Then I wonder if it is a random chance every time you ask or if it is locked at a certain point?

I tried to get a player all season to take a redshirt....he said no every single time...luckily he never got any minutes and then became ineligible due to grades...I tried to redshirt him right after he became ineligible and he accepted without any work ethic drop whatsoever...

My feeling has always been that it is random

Could be just that it's random and you're seeing a pattern that isn't really there.

My understanding is that under these circumstances the player will never accept the redshirt.
