I've been playing with a 3-2 (-2 to 0) against good perimeter shooting teams and been having some success with it. The 3-2 has worked better for me this season than the 2-3. I'm get outrebounded, but my opponents shot percentage is much lower.
I think you're asking for trouble if you play anything over a +3 or a -3 in either defense.
Couldn't disagree more about the +3/-3 settings. There are most definitely times when a 4 or 5 are appropriate.
dcy, I guess there could be times when a -4 or -5 is appropriate. If you have a team you are playing (especially in Div III) where you are playing a team that has very little to go for in PER and shoots almost invariably from the post, then yes I guess a -4 or -5 would work. I stand corrected. I still think you're asking for trouble though. If I see a team that goes -4 or -5 very often, I'm making my guards shoot 3's like crazy and going uptempo...no matter how bad of a shooter they are. If you are shooting 30 3's and making 25-30% of them (a loosely guarded guy should hit that %), you are still scoring more than shooting 30 2's and making 45% of them...which is presumably what a -4 or -5 would do to a good post player.
I would love to see the game add a few more zone defenses. 1-3-1 would be nice, and then adding some junk defenses like a Triangle and 2, a Diamond and 1, and a Box and 1 would really make the game planning much more fun.
