I have noticed some players are improving by more than 15 points in a single category.  I thought the new engine was supposed to slow down player improvement.  For example, in Tark, Louisville has a SG that has increased by 16 and 18 points in BH/P in his freshman year.  Now, we will have to see how much more he will improve in subsequent years but I really hope he does not keep this type of pace.  He started as 50s in both categories.

Any thoughts?

shows how important the scouting service option has become. With improvement slowing in general, finding those players with high projections for certain categories is critical. Louisville found 1 of those players.

I don't mind it, as long as it's a rare situation like only a few guys every season improve at this rate. I recruited several guys this season in Tark and nobody has impoved double digits in any area. However I do have a guy in Phelan who has improved 10 in per so far and he's in a RS year. I can only imagine how much he would've improved had he been playing 15+mpgs I probably would've seen close to a 20 point improvement over the course of the season as it stands now he will probably still impove 12-13 in Per.

kmason - If he improves 12-13 in Per this year rather than say 20 because he is redshirting.  Do you think he will improve more over his career in PER because he took a RS year or do yo think the improvement will be the same that it would have been, he will just reach his "max" at a different time?

His max is his max.
You're correct in that he will just reach that predefined "max" at a different time if he redshirts or if he starts as a freshman.

The coach must be putting major practice time in those two categories and also, they player is on Cincinatti, not Louisville.

Well since this guy's WE is so high (79 to start) I think regardless he would've reached his max just at different times. He was hi/hi in per according to evals and started out at 60per and with 100 being the actual max him improving by ten 23 games into his RS season pretty much guarantees that no matter what his cap is whether it's 100 or lower that he will get there and would've gotten there with or without a RS.

I think a more interesting case is a guy on my WVU team, Lloyd Campbell. He began this season with a 24LP rating but has hi/hi potential and improved to 34 as a freshman despite only playing in 21 games and playing 6.9mpgs in those games and has just a 36 WE. He also refused my many attempts to RS him so we will find out next season when he's actually playing how much he'll improve and we'll find out over his career if he'll ever actually max out. Judging from other recruits improvement in the new engine I would guess his cap will be at worst 60 in LP, let's see if he ever gets there.

From looking at the number of players who have hi/hi potential in certain areas and lower improvement rates (I do think this is the case for the majority of recruits) I think it will be fairly common to see players not reach their full potential which was unheard of in the old engine. However that doesn't mean players will improve less. For example the guy I mentioned who I RS'd is hi/hi in nearly everything, speed, rebounding, defense, LP , per and maybe even passing but I never got a response about that in an eval. So even if he doesn't max out in an area or 2 I still expect improvements of 25 in the areas he doesn't max out in which would still be on average higher then a normal hi potential area will improve.

This player:
58 61 2 54 11 17 47 51 69 91 72 25 B- 558
took a redshirt, and graduated in the very high 700s - I'll get the exact numbers when I get home from work.  That jump included +16 ATH, +14 PASS, and +12 SPD/STAM during his redshirt year.

So if he has the WE, you can see huge jumps there if the potential is high-high.

You can definitely still see 10+ points improvement as a FR is the player has high enough potential and WE.  Alex Myers on my GW team improved by 10+ points in 5 categories as a Freshman, and after his FR season + 1 offseason has +12 ATH, +16 REB, +16 DE, +16 BLK, +18 LP, +23 ST, +14 DU.

He also has not improved more than 4 points in any other area - which means that the coach is probably throwing A LOT of practice minutes to BH/P.  That is one of the intended consequences, you may have to prioritize what to max out when.  Maybe the coach wants to max out BH/P early next season, and then move practice time into other areas.

I firmly believe in the new engine WE>>>>> playing time. A guy with 80 WE on a RS will improve more than a guy with a 35 WE and playing 15 minutes a game. Given they both have similar potential. Now you combine both and you will see a ridiculous amount of improvement.
