Which is a better idea for a team still in the C's?

Spread the sead  -  Basically start scouting calling and mailing any of the recruits that you would like on your team. Finding the best players who seem interested and getting considerations.  This could be bad if another team with A or B gets him to consider their school.

Wait it out -  Hold off on all recruiting for a bit. Wait to see who still has no considerations, or just worse prestige teams, and go after them.  This puts a rush on your ability to make them consider you and gives other teams some time to make a stab at him because they think nobody else wants him.

Just wondering what people think/experienced when they started. I would expect strategy to change slightly when dealing with a very good player already or a middle of the pack with good potential and fits in your scheme.

My Metropolitan State team is still in the C's and I go after the best players I can see if I don't think it'll bankrupt me and give me a few walk-ons.

When I had  a C- and D+ team,  both with 5 openings, I only filled 3 slots.  It gave me extra funds to go after better players. I gambled that I could improve the prestige in one season and get better players the next year.

But, in answer to your question, if I have 1 or 2 openings, I wait it out. I can't afford to get in a recruiting battle. If I have 3+ openings, I spread the seed.

The best idea is a mix of the two. Find your initial targets, then wait until after the first cycle (or two) to see who is on them, then make a decision on where you want to put your money. If high prestige/high money teams are on your initial recruits, you have a couple options, target one of the prime targets to battle for and/or re-scout for the next tier of players that you like that have no or easy battles.
