You should be able to change the order of your pitching rotation in the playoffs, particularly before a day off.

1)  You can reset your rotation completely between rounds.

2)  You can juggle your rotation beyond the next game starter any way you want, just as you can during the regular season.  So you should be taking the off day into account when setting your rotation for the next two games.

I think you should be able to change your next-day starter, at least if you do it prior to a day off in the series.

The problem with that is that it might not give the other team an opportunity to adjust their lineup to your new pitcher.  That's why the next day starter is currently always locked.

There seems to be a disconnect here.

PM SP1
PM2 SP2
AM  OFF DAY
PM SP3

I think Ronnie Howard would like the ability to change his SP before the off day.   Of course, you can set it for SP1 but his rest rating(which you can change) can cause him to be skipped.   Nonetheless, there are "work-arounds" so you can make it happen.

Weren't you on the other end of this discussion a couple of weeks ago, tec?  Something about "If I lose game 5, I may want to use a different stater than if I won game 5."

Anyway, if the SP is set 8 hours before the game, you should have time to react.

Good point, Mike.  Yes, I was on the other end, with the example that you give.  My bad, I hadn't considered that example when responding to Richie Cunningham.

Which "work-arounds" are you referring to, Mike?

The work-around would be to decrease the auto-rest % for SP1 low enough so that he is not skipped.
7/21/2010 2:30 PM
Correct.  If a pitcher won't be rested enough for the off day but will be fine after the off day, you just have to drop his auto-rest number to 10%(or whatever).   SIMMY won't skip him then.

By the way, I could easily see why one would rather use SP1 than SP3 after the 2nd game even if he's not going to be 100%.  There's usually quite a difference in talent between 1 and 3 on my teams.    If the series is 1-1, I'll take my chances to get my #1 back to 100% for game 4.  If I'm down 0-2, I'd like use him even if he's 88%.  He can rest in the winter.

Why even have a SP 3 listed then? Why not just have the SP 1 and the SP 2?
7/21/2010 3:31 PM
Because if I'm 1-1, I want my SP3 going in game 3 so my SP1 can get back to 100%.

I may be misunderstanding the discussion here, but I don't think it can work as you're suggesting. The decision on who starts game 3 is made at the end of game 2, not right before the start of game 3.

For example, if you have your ace (Jim) with auto-rest at 10% (and he is above 10% after pitching in game 1) put into the slot after the #2 starter, he will be locked in as the SP for game #3. You cannot change that after he is locked in by putting his auto-rest at 99%.

Once the SP is locked in, he's pitching (unless you designate him for assignment).

zbrent, the question here is whether or not the pitcher should be locked in if the next HBD day is a scheduled off day during the playoffs.  Because in the case of an off day, he's really locked in two days before the game is played and not just one.

Right, I understand that.

I thought Mike's work-around might involve a way to deal with the situation now, without any update.
