Maximizing Innings Topic

If I wanted to maximize a relievers innings and get the most out of him, would I set him at Setup A or Closer with "can be used in non-save situations."  I've got a guy with 85 Dur, 25 Stamina and he's far and away my best reliever. I am thinking of using him in the closer role, set at available in the 7th. Thoughts?

That's what I do.  If the stam/dur is high enough, setupa can get up to 150 innings.

If I'm trying to maximize innings, I go Setup A, available any inning. And if you have the right guy and your goal is really maximizing innings (while staying at 100%) there are studs out there who can go well above 150 innings.

Erffdogg Memorial League has a guy, Ivan Johnson of the Florida Marlins, who is (IIRC) 85/64 DUR/STA and he's been racking up 300+ innings a season. The owner assembled the finest group of low STA SP ever assembled, they all get pulled for PH in the top of the 5th and Johnson comes into vulture the win. He's gonna win 35 or more this season. 

Just a sick, sick player who is being managed perfectly.

Ivan Johnson

As incredible as it is to say this about someone logging 260+ IP per season and around 35 wins, I actually think Ivan Johnson is being underutilized. There's no reason that he shouldn't be a 400+ IP pitcher.

Yeah, I'd probably use Johnson like green detailed.   He can probably throw 3-5 innings every other day.

None of my Worlds has someone like him.

He's a low Sta SP with an elite RP durability.

I'd probably start him every other game, on a 55/75 pitch count. Figure at least between 4 and 6 innings per start (most above 5 because he's a very effective pitcher as well), 81 starts. There's your 400+ IP, all at 100%.

Back to your original question, if you are talking about a minor league prospect on a minor league team that you are developing, what I do with a stud relief prospect is set him as the ONLY setup A guy.  He will come into every single game that he is rested enough for.  Even if you have other potential ML relief prospects on the team, set them to setup B.  The engine will use the best setup B usually so they will still get their innings too.  I never use a ML prospect as closer in the minor leagues, and often dont' even assign a closer.

Can anyone explain the overall rating drop between Season 13 and 14?  From 83 to 79, then up to 89 the next year...none of the other ratings support it...

Anyone?
