Dribble Drive Motion Offense Topic

Is it possible to recreate the DDMO in HD? Any of you other UK or Memphis fans should know what I'm talking about. It's famous for being John Calipari's offense, but he didn't create it obviously.

I was thinking you could start 3 guards on the perimeter with good Ath, BH and P skills. The DDMO emphasizes driving and slashing over outside shooting so PER would be a nice bonus but not the emphasis. The PF would have to be athletic and able to handle the ball, and the C should be a rebounder and defender/shot blocker more than a scorer.

Would this work in HD? The team would obviously not be a great shooting team but maybe you set the 3 point frequency to negative for pretty much everyone to ensure that you aren't bricking 3's for the entire game.

I think this is one of the fun things about HD.  You try to create a team or a system that you can visualize in your mind.  I am a Dick Bennett Guy, so I visualize my teams playing the Blocker Mover offense and Pack Line defense.  Recruit and set your game plan to run the dribble drive....you're the coach!!    This kind of opens up an interesting question...........................What system do you other coaches visualize??????

kspoorman, I would hope you might pattern your defense after Bennett and your offense after ... well, just about anyone else.

maybe the question I need to ask is.. would the above system win in HD? Can you make deep tourney runs without much 3-point shooting?

Would that offense fall apart against a good zone team?

you should try it.  with the new engine, you never know whats going to work.  maybe recruit one shooter to open up the floor for your slashers.  that way, if someone went -4, hopefully your shooter could light them up.

thanks guys. My team is pretty stacked with upperclassmen and as long as I don't get in the way too much, could be pretty solid this year and next year, so I'll look to implement it in the following seasons.

Good, that gives your recruits time to develop before you make the switch

I made a mini-run through the CT and into the EE a few years ago (came within 2 pts of making the Final Four) with that type set up. Set a 3 guard rotation to -1, gave them high distro and let them go. Helped that they were A & B+ FT shooters and had 2 bigs with 90+ REB.. Don't know if it would work for a whole season but definitely think you should give it a try.

^very nice. That's pretty much exactly what I'm looking to do

Ive had a lot of teams that take almost no 3 pointers and it works out fine. Just because a guy isnt taking 3s doesnt mean hes not taking mid range jumpers. As long as you have guard scorers a -4 or -3 isnt going to be that effective against you.

Im running a fastbreak offense and I am switching to something similar to this in the upcomming season using the fastbreak offense.

^that leads me to my last question on the subject - in real life, the Dribble Drive is a motion-based offense. Let's say I built a roster tailor-made for this style of play in HD. Should I be running a motion, like in real life, or could it work in Flex/Triangle/Fast break?

Well triangle would be a terrible fit, being heavily pass-oriented by nature and ideally reliant on catch-and-shoot perimeter scorers.  Flex also would probably be a poor choice.  I think either motion or fastbreak would be your best choice.  Fastbreak would likely be the most effective, but motion would play a little bit more the way you want it to.  Also would probably have less turnovers with the motion, of course...

thanks. too bad im stuck with triangle for another season after this
