No.

ABSOLUTLEY SUCKS!  For small Di schools, we have no shot of getting good enough players to compete to move up the coach ing ladder.  Im definitely dropping a team, maybe 2.  The only ones Im going to keep are the ones that already have a high prestige.

In my opinion, the quest to make HD as close to real life as possible has sacrificed alot of fun.  I remember being able to get a recruit and "mold" him into the type of player I wanted.  It wasnt as realistic, but it was a helluva lot more fun to see what he would look like by his senior year.  Now I have a D1 guy with a 90+ WE that is a sophomore and only improving in like 4 or 5 categories (which actually isnt realistic at all)

Now that we are 30-45 days into the new engine, does anyone see what I see or am I in the minority?

I guess I keep hanging on because I used to absolutely LOVE HD.  I couldnt wait to read my play by play/boxscore.  I keep hoping it will be as fun as it once was, but it just simply isnt anymore.
Right, because having a prospect that works hard that just isn't very talented never happens right?

I mean, I worked hard, played HS basketball, if you would have recruited me to a D1 team, I'm afraid I would have been pretty much maxed out, just not going to get much faster/stronger/better shooter etc.  Shaq never got better at shooting 3s or Fts.

Recruit players with 90 WE and they reach their ceilings pretty fast.

chew it is too bad, I don't think there are that many coaches left who even understand what it is your are talking about, the game is not terrible in my opinion this way, it is just the way recruiting was at one point was just alot more fun - had the system been modified slightly rather than overcorrected, the game could have even been better, but that really isn't happening, instead we are just seeing a slow exodous away from the game from the vets, and the new coaches don't have near the passion for the game  that used to exist, why would they, the game is not as much fun?  They do seem good at flaming legitimate attempts at communicating issues however, which is something I guess.  Whatever

I'm with you Chew.  I was just getting readu to move up to N. Iowa, but as I did a search for recruits in the area, I decided no way.  Its too bad too.  UNI was one of my dream jobs when I started playing this game, and now there is no point.  They should really think about changing the name of the game as the only dynasties out there are the ones that already exist.  It used to be we could recruit a kid that while maybe he wasn't and All American candidate, could progress nicely over 4 years and you could do somethings with.  Now, that kid is nowhere near good enough to compete with the big boys out there, and he wil remain the same player he was when you recruited him.  If he comes in as a shooting big man, a shooting big man he will remain, but you can't make your own Nowitzcki anymore.  You are 100% right Chad, in an effort to be like real life they have destroyed the best aspects of the game.

I completely agree chewchad, I'm basically in the exact same boat, and all in all, I'm rather displeased with the lack of recruiting talent in general.

"You are 100% right Chad, in an effort to be like real life they have destroyed the best aspects of the game. "

A fair amount of people on this site that play this game don't understand/grasp this concept. With that said, it's spot on. Adding every real life nuance won't necessarily make any game better, it just means that it's more complex. I tend to like older push button games (EA Sports games around 2003-2005/06) because they're fun to play without it being job-like. Nowadays, games are overly complex, the fonts are way to small (I still have no idea why A. you'd shrink the fonts and B. you'd go with a shittier font style...in NBA Live 06...5s look like 6s and 6s look like 8s...not kidding), and the games have become about exceptional controller mastery and that's about it. Again, making me push more buttons isn't going to make me like the game any more. All changes are not good and "NEW" doesn't necessarily mean "BETTER".

what hasn't been brought up is that the new engine allows for you to compete with a team that's only 8 deep so you don't have to be stacked with talent 10-12 deep to compete.  this helps smaller schools that have a roster with upper classmen.  i'm not trying to make an argument that the playing field is leveled by any stretch of the imagination.  smaller school expectations should be somewhat lower if you're going to coach there.  may not be about winning the national championship but maybe winning the conference and/or conference tourney and making the Big Dance, then ******* off a team or two by upsetting them in the Dance.  maybe you can even catch lightning in a bottle and make it to a final four, which is still happening with teams outside of the Big 6.  I just think if expectations are modified than the game can be fun from any level.  having said that, i prefer to try and win the national championship so i currently coach the Big 6 schools but i have coached at lower levels and built programs too.

just my two cents.

Here's a thought: A lot of the lower level D1 coaches who complain about recruit generation but claim to still love HD find the only solution is two drop teams and slowly dissapear from the game. That's great

But isn't there another solution? Why don't you just drop back down to D2? Nobody will think less of you, and you must have been successful at D2 in order to move up. Why not come back?

Oldresorter (and a few others) left a mid-major D1 school for a D2 team, and now he's dominating at that level. I know most coaches are just getting tired of the game itself, but for those who claim to love it why not do this? Just a suggestion

I agree that this is a smart temporary solution for many coaches, BUT that doesn't eliminate the desire to fix D1. Granted I've never coached at D1, but the problems I've been reading about seem very real and I agree that fun should be the name of the game here, even over realism (colonels hit the nail squarely on the head in describing many contemporary sports video games as being "joblike." EA thinks I care about setting parking prices over building a team??). So yes, I think the passion for the game can be somewhat renewed if some of these owners drop back down, but the dream in this game is still to build the best team in the land, and that happens at D1. WiS needs to make that fun again.

As someone who has only made DII twice- I'll trade you problems.  I can't recruit at DII.

I think the D-I generation is so-so, while the D-II and D-III generation has become downright poor.  Again, with lack of SPD in big men being the primary concern.
