So this guy got DiTR designation last season:

Ricardo_Castro

Then took a pretty sizable leap in improvement over the offseason, enough to make me think he could be a fringe long guy, certainly a cheap mop up guy w/ a little bit of improvement.  I gave him a ton of innings in ST and he responded w/ improvements that I've grown accustomed to from a solid prospect in his 2nd or 3rd ST period, basically 1 point across the board in control, splits and pitches.  The splits and control are less than ideal, and will certainly remain that way, his groundball frequency is terrible and always will be, his velocity is OK, but his pitches are pretty strong.  If he can improve his splits and control into the low to mid 60s, I think I'd use him as a long B type while he was cheap.

Here's the question, my AS is 0, as I've learned to get comfortable projecting guys w/ a few seasons under their belt, plus this team has a huge payroll and is built for the now, not really for the future.  The DiTR designation leaves me wondering how much improvement he has left.  His first improvement cycle this year he gained another point in control and splits.  Anyone have a feel for how much more a DiTR at 23 has left to improve?  Can he get to a mid 60s split on hi control & splits?  Even if he does, does he really deserve to be used as a Long B/mopup type guy?
