PH setting of 3 Topic

PH setting of 3.  Down by 4 runs in the 8th, and my pitcher (a horrible hitter) bats for himself.

I had 3 decent PH'ers on the bench, and plenty of rested arms in the pen.

Why wouldn't a PH be brought into the game in that situation?

Sparky prefers to pinch hit in close games. he must think "Down by 4 runs" is a lost cause. I've had PH of 5 and he still bats the pitcher when it's not close

I've never gone higher than a 3 on the PH setting because I didn't want to a new pitcher every 2 innings.  I figured 3 was sort of an "average" setting, and in my mind an "average" manager would PH for a crappy-hitting relief pitcher when down by 4 in the 8th.  Especially with plenty of batters/pitchers rested and available.

at the higher settings he seems to PH earlier in the game and some hitters will get pulled for a PH with favorable matchup, but I haven't noticed much difference with pitchers late in the game.

Interesting response from Admin:

There's a lot at play in this logic. It turns out the fact the pitcher had a call bullpen of 1 (Very Patient) was enough to just push the decision to leave him hit for himself since there were two out and he had enough pitches remaining to go another inning and the team was down by four.

Had it been a 3-run deficit, or a runner on base, or < 2 out or Call Bullpen of 2 or higher or 9th inning, he'd have been pulled.

We tend to agree with you, though, that he probably should have been lifted. As a result, we've made a slight adjustment that will be part of the next engine update.

I wasn't aware the call bullpen settings affected pinch hit decisions -- I thought they only applied to when a pitcher was on the mound.

I used to play Strat-O-Matic, and while I definitely like this sim better, Strat does give you much more control of in game decisions. I don't understand why this game doesn't offer more contro; of in game strategies, and the game certainly would be a better play if it did.

They over-corrected. Sparky just used 2 pinch-hitters with a 12-run lead.
