Two Good Teams Available in DIII Wooden Topic

Next season there will be 2 good (if not better) teams that will be vacant in DIII Wooden. The conference is on the rise and I hope someone will pick-up these teams and run with them.

What will the prestige on the first team look like? I'm interested.

Would be interesting to take over CCNY.......but I think I'm rooted where I'm at right now.

hoosier, why not add a team? Looks like you don't have one in Wooden right now...

Ya, and we all know wooden is the shizzz. Plus, wooden himself was a hoosier, and us indiana boys gotta stick together.

wooden might be the biggest cheater in the history of athletics.

Haha, awesome. How was he a cheater? I'm not arguing, I just really want to know what dirty stuff he did.

UCLA hoops back then was sort of like USC football now, but Wooden was such an advocate for the game (and also white) and a lot of people wanted to see a juggernaut like that, so nobody sniffed around too much, or if they did they were happy to go along.

Even if the program was totally clean, he was kind of a dictator, moreso than most coaches - he required his players socks to have an exact ratio of cotton to nylon, he made the players eat exactly the same meals every day (7 oz of roast beef, one cup green beans, one potato, etc.)

There's no denying he's a legend, and was a great coach, but now that time is passing it's getting safer to portray him as he was.

Can you remember an interview with him in the past twenty years where he didn't implicitly condemn the nature of modern hoops (i.e. mostly dominated by black people, some who even had tatoos!)

Wow, I didn't know he went all Adolf Rupp on us. It is definitely plausible, for those calibre of athletes to submit to that type of control they might have been getting something else out of it (besides a free education).

Adolph Rupp was not any more racist than the average person during his time. He actually was among the first coaches in the South to recruit and play black players(possibly the very first)

As far as Wooden, Bill Walton is on record as saying that he took a pay cut when he left UCLA for the pros. Wooden wasn't exactly a "cheater" - it was Sam Gilbert that actually did the cheating - but he had to know what was going on.

I'm not trying to be a dick, but racist is racist is racist. My goal wasn't really to single out Rupp, I was attempting to draw a comparison and the reference to him was more of a generalization.
