Tony Doubleday at the helm??? Topic

Didn't realize I hired Tony Larussa to manage my team last night.

Starting pitcher allowed 1 runner via  a walk, and 1 via an error, but no hits.  2 outs in the 9th, no runners on base, he hits 101 pitches (MPC was set to 100) and despite the pending no hitter while up 5, was pulled for a reliever.  I thought they made adjustments so pitchers wouldn't be pulled in this situation.

so your pitcher was pulled when he hit his max pitch count?  huh, interesting.

If its that simple, then its not interesting at all, but I thought they made a change to the logic so that a starter wouldn't be pulled when hitting his max pitch count when in the midst of a no hitter.  If they made those changes, then this is an example that shows they haven't done it properly, there was no one on base, we're up 5, so there is no threat of lossing the game, he had exceeded his max pitch count by only 1 pitch.  Seems like a case where the logic should keep him in for an extra batter.

Jim Joyce would have missed a call and cost him the no-no anyway.

i would be livid if my pitcher were left in past his pitch count because of something like a no-hitter.  you are free to alter the max pitch count if you want to reduce the chances of him being pulled during a no-hitter.

No such change has ever been made.  I think you're confusing it with all the people clamoring for such a change in forum threads such as this one.

OK, thanks tec.

I believe the word "maximum" has been misunderstood.

If no-hitters are important to you, set your pitchers at a pull rating of 5 with no pitch count.    They won't get removed from a game until they "cross the line".   Walking a player won't make it happen.

That'd be a pull rating of 1.

No, 5.   You don't want him throwing 148 pitches when he's getting smacked around.

Call Bullpen - This value refers to the situation at which you would like your manager to take out a pitcher. This setting functions in a similar manner to the team managerial settings where the scale is 1-5, with a one indicating the least aggressive/rarer option and the five the most aggressive/frequent option. In this respect a pitcher will be removed at the first sign of danger if his call bullpen setting is set to five. If his Call Bullpen setting is set to 1 a manager will do his best to allow the pitcher to pitch out of a jam and reach the player's target pitch count.

Ah, true.  I know what the pull rating means, but I was thinking in terms of wanting to keep him in the game.  The idea here, though, is to keep him in the game while throwing a no-hitter, and to pull him when he loses it.  My error.
