Changing the Position of player for WW & R5 Topic

In world I'm in right now, an owner has Switched the primary positions of 4 players in an attempt to hide them on the WW.  Basically hiding them in plain sight.  Now I'm not referring to changing a Catcher to 1B etc OR even a C to a SS... I talking about changing one Pitcher to a 2B and another to a C; as well changing a Catcher and a 2B/COF to Pitchers

The same type of thing was done another world of mine in the Rule V Draft... Once discovered all agreed this kind of thing was wrong.

Well now there are some who say...what's the problem with trying to 'out-wit' others OR this is just taking advantage of a 'quirk' in the system.

Is this a legit thing to do OR.....

For the record I'm completely, 100% against it..

I thought there were measures in place to prevent that. That it would actually put where the player should play. Maybe it just works like that for FA, so I don't see why they couldn't impliment it across the board.

This is from a 3 year old CS ticket:

"Do you know if it is a common tactic for a team to change a valued player's position prior to the Rule V draft?

For example, taking a young slugging OF and changing him to a worthless pitcher - will that mean that he'll come up at the bottom of all the Rule V lists and rankings?

Hi,

It doesn't matter what position the player is set to, they teams will see them according to their ratings and how much scouting money the team has spent.

It's not really outwitting anybody, it's just a super cheesy move.

As noted below your post, WIS did tweak HBD in the Rule V in an attempt to 'foil' this but it doesn't completely work

Like the regular draft, the Rule V as "Settings" as to what you're looking for in a particular position etc.   For example "Movement" being a priorty with a pitcher.  Well a positional guy was NONE on his pitches...so if you change a 2B to P, he'll be at the bottom of your pitchers listed etc etc

Now of course simply not putting anything into the settings and ranking the players completely by the manual method, take this care of this (for the most part).  But what about a new owner, who may not know .... He'll see a terrible Pitcher, instead of a great 2b/COF  maybe.  And some experience owners will pass on the guy cause there just SO MANY to see not look closely...  Rule 5 is a just a one day thing, so many owners may not be able to review the list close enough to spot it.

This tactic banks on this fact.

This was tried in a world I am in many seasons ago. It failed in rule 5-- the game reset the player to his appropriate position-- but it succeeded on the WW. I don't know if it still would work the same way now.

FWIW, if someone is trying this It's easy to spot a hitter hidden as a pitcher, because P2 = 0. It's less easy to find a pitcher hidden as a hitter; some have defensive ratings so bizarre they can only be a pitcher, but some don't.

Yes that was part of the fix done on the R5       True, in both cases BUT what the owner is hoping for is that others will quickly dismiss the player due to the low ratings especially IF there are a LOT of other players on the WW at that time.  The beginning of the season is a good time, cause a lot of owners are doing things to get ready for Rule 5, releasing players before ARB and making other moves etc.  So the WW tends to be busy.  Owners are looking for a guy with great ratings, not some Low A career guy, so they focus and look for the good ratings. You know, the player an owner doesn't really want to put on waivers but has to because of the Rule V.....

This is exactly what this owner did, BUT the WW wasn't as busy as it usually is and therefore these 4 players stick out more (presently the are about 12-13 total on the WW... so 4 like this are very easy to spot_
