What am I missing when trying to sign a free agent who wants a big league contract to a minor league contract.

I offer money but I keep getting this message:  Error: A minor league contract will default to 1 year for the player's minimum required salary and cannot include a bonus.

In this case, the player wants $1,045,000 at the bigs but like I said, I want to sign him to a minor league deal. 
Help me out here and thanks in advance.

He does not want your minor league contract.  None will accept that.

Players will not accept deals below their asking price, in terms of dollars or level.

If he has options, you can sign him and option him down.

If you're looking for a minor leaguer, do not sign him and send him down.  Waste of $1 mil.
