DITR- Can this guy hit ML pitching? Topic

I have a RF DITR who has very lopsided numbers, and I'm wondering if he has a shot in the majors.  If so, he'll be my injury call-up (He's in AAA) this season.  If all else fails, I'll just try it out, but I'm kind of hoping to have some idea of his success beforehand.  He's a left-handed pull-hitter, with good power and splits v RHP, but horrendous batting-eye and contact.  I'm hoping for: AVG .230, HR 40, RBI 100 type numbers, platooning against RHP.  Anybody have stats on a comparable player?

Thanks, kermit.  What explains the difference in stats?  Were you playing him full-time in seasons 15-16, but platooning him in 17?

Anybody else have a player with similar ratings?

You are hoping for 40 HR 100 RBI's only playing against RHP?  Are you mad?  He's averaging a HR every ~ 13 AB's in the minors, that's not going to improve in the majors, and he's not going to hit 40 bombs in ~ 400 AB's.

I guess you can try him out, but .279/.333/.582 in the minors is pretty crappy.  I'd guestimate something like .225/.280/.450 in the majors.

My guy has only started against RHP... brought up to the majors partially into Season 15 (you'll see he played 21 games at AAA that season) and we just hit the ASB of Season 17.

He is one of my better defensive OF so he does get into games against LHP as a defensive replacement fairly often.

Deanod, I get your drift, though he is a DITR, so the last season is much more representative than the first.  He also stands to grow 2-4 pts in contact and batting eye, and 3-5 in power, v LHP, and v RHP.  You're also right about my calculations...I was thinking spread over 550-600 ABs.  Instead, as a platoon-starter, he would probably get 350-400.  So instead of 40/100, the numbers I'm hoping for would be 25/70.  The best comparison on my roster is the guy I'd like to replace for next season: http://www.whatifsports.com/hbd/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=1428724

Maybe you can give him a whirl if his vR gets up near 90...but in the meantime, I think his contact and batting eye might be too much to overcome.

You can do a lot better signing somebody for 1 yr @ $2M off the FA scrap heap.  Maybe consider the guy next season after another full year of progression.

You might be underselling the BA a bit -- Peter Richard has managed a .260 or so average for three seasons, in a mild pitcher's park (OKC) with nothing but a 96 vRH to recommend him.

He won't be quite as good as this guy, who has hit for solid power but LOTS of K's, .248/.292/.519

Yours is missing the same amount of power and vs R...he'll be barely playable.
