Am I crazy for thinking this recruiting action is supposed to mean the player will reject the redshirt when he comes to campus?  After unsuccessfully getting a recruit to take the redshirt, I had to go down this path just to get to get the guy to agree to come to campus.

For giggles I threw the redshirt on him immediately after he came to campus.  He accepted it.  I thought in this scenario you were supposed to get a message along the lines of "Coach, you told me that you weren't going to redshirt me ....."

Did I just get lucky or is something off?

That's what we were told, IIRC.  You are not the first guy to post in the forums about getting a guy to take the redshirt in these circumstances however.

you got lucky - if you tell the guy you wont redshirt him the ODDs that he will be ****** if you nonetheless redshirt him go up - but it depends on how much of a team player, where he stands in the depth chart, how highly rated he is compared to your prestige and all the other usual factors...as well, I think, on some randomness

How did you "inform him" that you were "not going to Redshirt' him?

The option I see is to inform him you are going to Red Shirt him.

I guess if you use that (the inform of RS), maybe you can pull it off of him too, is that what you are talking about?  If so, then that would be like not informing him in the first place.  I would then think he would act like any other recruit you have not infortmed about a RS in the first place.
