Early Entry Logic Flaw? Topic

Does anyone else find it extemely unlikely that a starter who was not even an All Conference Honorable Mention would decide to enter the draft? In other words, the player wasn't even considered as being in the top 6 in the Conference at his position, but he thinks he's good enough for the NBA. How about 2 starters from the same team in that same situation? In reality, if a guy decides to go to college in the first place, would he really play 3 seasons, be a solid player but not even make honorable mention all conference and suddenly decide to turn pro just because the team made a tourney run, that's all I'm asking. I don't think you'll see a lot of instances of that happening in real life, let alone multiples on the same team. If the guy was that good, he'd at least be honorable mention, imho.

hawkfan, the reason is because the All-Conference team is about stats, and jumping early for the draft is about talent. Whittington and Millsap are awesome players, but you only gave them enough distro to average 7-8 ppg. Those are two separate things.

If you ask me, the real flaw is that they let some schools get (like yours) get decimated by four early entries, while other schools with comparable players don't lose any. I've said for a long time that they need to put a measure in place to significantly decrease the likelihood of that happening.

Every year a bunch of wannabes think they are good enough for the pros. Last year didn't 3 or 4 Oklahoma Sooners declare for the draft, and only Tiny Gallon and one other go later in the second round? It sucks as a coach, but its more like rl.

But in real life, you have a lot of other factors to consider.  Willie Warren and Jeff Capel didn't get along, so Warren decided to leave.  This is another one of those things where I don't really think you can compare real life and HD.

nb, I truly don't think we're well served trying to copy that aspect of real life.

Good points guys. Am I wrong, though, or does it seem that certain teams are more likely to get hit with early entry?  Does anyone know if there is a prestige factor involved with whether they stay or go?  Ie., you have a B prestige and make the Final Four, everyone bolts.  You have a UNC A++++ and maybe only 1 or 2 leave early?

perhaps there's a characteristic of the players that declare early that we're missing...when is the last time someone used a personality test?

There is definitely a personality aspect, but it's very minor compared to ratings and team success. I've had plenty of guys who were supposed to be team players and returned that poor stripper's $20 to her that bolted.

You mean like real life Kentucky losing 4 Freshmen (only 3 who where starters) in the real NBA draft?

If you recruit "the best" players, I would be expecting them to leave early.

And like in real life, it is based on talent and not playing time or stats.

If you look at either Eric Bledsoe or Daniel Orton from Kentucky, neither of them had the "Stats" or "Awards" to leave early ... yet both were taken in the first round of the NBA draft.

I think you are missing the point hughes...there needs to be a standard.  Lots of teams "recruit the best" but only some of those guys leave early.  I dont know many teams that get the top 4 players overall in HD.
