Home park is Minnesota (slight hitters' park).

I realize it all depends heavily on a number of other factors, so I am just looking for ballpark predictions here.

Both RHP?  (assumption from the splits)

I'm not much for predicting quantitatively (stats fluctuate hugely, esp. for RPs), so I'll give you a qualitative prediction:

They'll both get lit up, but will probably have decent BB/9 stats and passable K/9s... tho #2 will have a better one, imho.

I'd never use either in a hitter's park, or even a neutral park.

Neither one of those dudes can hit at all.   .028/.035/.028 and .016/.019/.016

Yes, sorry, both throw right-handed.
10/29/2010 4:16 PM
Well, that's not going to help their hitting.   I'm not even sure where I'd play them in the field.

Helpful as always, Mike, but I'm more interested in their ability to pitch effectively.

I think you know neither of them will be very effective.  But, because of the nature of the game, you could get widely varied results.   You may as well put some stat lines on a dart board and blindly wing darts at them.    The stat line is:  You can get a lot of pitches from them.  They won't walk very many batters but they are likely to ge lit up because their pitches are "average" and their splits are "unacceptable" for BL pitchers.

If you're seriously considering using them(or if you're pulling an Arlen, using them and plan of displaying their stats later to say "Why is this guy so much better than the other one?"), I'd set their pitch counts and pull ratings high.   That way, if they were pitching effectively, you could burn them for a few days and not have to wait for the inevitable bad outing.  If they were ineffective, they wouldn't be in the game long and they'd live to pitch another day.

The gimmick is that you've been using them as 3-inning SPs in a 2-man rotation and they've been monsters, racking up identical 3.07 ERAs in season 1 of your world and both even better this season despite being old.  I peeked.

One major reason for this, best as I can tell in 15 minutes of analysis, is that Rickey world appears at first glance to be oddly bereft of talent-- don't know if that's inherent to a new world or what.  But they still appear to be outperforming their expected ERAs by about a full run... maybe you're running a really good defense.

Ahh, I see.   He was going for the "You're all wrong!!  They're great!!!" angle.

Makes me feel better that I was intentionally disrupting the nonsense with bigger nonsense.

Predicting stats is about the dumbest thing anyone does on this site.

One might note that Branch Rickey had 10 teams with 97 or more losses in S1.   That's another reason why predicting stat lines is especially retarded.   Can anyone find another world where almost 1/3 of the teams were a series away from losing 100?

In a normal situation...the vL and vR they both have result in them getting torched.

If you hadn't been so quick to argue - which is seems you are with an increasing frequency, if that is possible - you might have actually gotten the point.

This happens to be something we agree on - so quick, change your position!

One of the largest problems with offering predictions is accounting for the variance in league talent. Guys like this would be scrubs in most leagues but, mainly due to the lack of talent in Rickey (no Branch involved) they can be effective here. The impact of varying talent levels isn't unique to predicting stat lines though. When people come in and lobby for or against vetoes, the overall talent level of the league is often not considered.

In many other Worlds, these two guys for an .850 OPS All-Star LF might be uneven. Here though, because these two guys - in this World, at this time - are effective pitchers who can log many innings, it might not be uneven at all.
