I thought it was interesting that I have
http://www.whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=1412650 in the top 5 for CY Young voting but not for Fireman...he has a 9-7 record 32 of 39 saves a 3.36 ERA, .216 OAV; 63 K's/23 BB in 72.1 inn
The fireman (in order) have
1-5 record, 47 of 54 saves, 3.18 ERA, .235 OAV, 48 K's/15 BB in 51 inn
3-2 record, 36 of 41 saves, 1.69 ERA, .224 OAV, 44 K's/11 BB in 53.1 inn
2-2 record, 38 of 46 saves, 3.46 ERA, .245 OAV, 45 K's/24 BB in 67.2 inn
4-3 record, 33 of 36 saves, 1.93 ERA, .218 OAV, 65 K's/13 BB in 79.1 inn
1-6 record, 41 of 49 saves, 4.57 ERA, .244 OAV, 30 K's/24 BB in 45.1 inn
If you compare my guy with the 3rd Fireman, I've got 7 more wins with 5 more losses; 6 less saves with 1 less blown save; a better ERA and OAV; 1 less walk (in 5 more innings) and a K/9 rate more than 1.5 higher. Looks like those 6 extra saves carry a lot of extra weight. The 2th and 4th guy also compare fairly well, with the 4th guy arguably better.
Incidently, the best non-listed CY Young contender went 16-6, 3.21 ERA, .232 OAV, 182 K's/69 BB in 218.2 inn ( .3 K/9 worse than my closer, almost identical BB/9). So it's kinda of interesting (and logical since it has to compare SP's with RP's) that my 9 win 32 save closer is seen as a better CY young candidate than a 16 win SP and a 1 win/47 save closer despite comparable other numbers...
